Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for wireless communication. In one aspect, a method may be performed by a wireless device such as a user equipment (UE) and generally includes: receiving at least one downlink (DL) signal from one or more base stations or transmitting at least one uplink (UL) positioning reference signal (PRS), the received at least one DL signal comprising: at least one DL PRS, at least one synchronization signal block (SSB), at least one system information block (SIB), at least one other reference signal comprising a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS), or a combination thereof, wherein at least one measurement is performed based, at least in part, on the received at least one DL signal or the transmitted at least one UL PRS; and performing at least one adjustment for random access based, at least in part, on the at least one measurement.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide sequences of spreading codes and hopping patterns that may be used in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) communications between a user equipment (UE) and a base station. A codebook of spreading codes and the associated hopping patterns may be systematically constructed by closed form formulas or look up table. The base station may receive multiple concurrent transmissions from multiple different UEs, and the sequences of spreading codes and hopping patterns, may be used to identify a particular UE of the multiple UEs.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which multiple access (MA) signatures may be used in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmissions to provide differentiation between multiple concurrent NOMA transmission that use common time, frequency, and spatial resources. Systematic extension of the pool size of MA signatures can be obtained by the grouping of UE-specific spreading codes and the application of group-specific scrambling code, where the generation of scrambling code can depend at least on a cell ID and UE group ID. The MA signature may be based at least in part on a UE specific spreading code and a group level scrambling code. The UE-specific spreading code may be one of a set of codes associated with a particular scrambling code. The scrambling code may be one of a number of orthogonal or non-orthogonal scrambling codes that are associated with one or more UE parameters.

Abstract: A technique for hybrid automatic repeat request (HARD) transmissions using low-density parity-check (LDPC) coding with self-decodable retransmissions is disclosed. Data is encoded using a low-density parity check code to obtain encoded data, where the encoded data includes core data and non-core data. The encoded data is then stored in a buffer for transmission. A plurality of redundancy versions of the encoded data is then transmitted, wherein all redundancy versions of encoded data include core data, and each of the transmitted redundancy versions of the encoded data includes at least a different subset of the core data. The core data may be reordered prior to obtaining at least one of the different subsets of core data. Each of the transmitted redundancy versions of the encoded data includes sufficient core data to permit self-decodability of the transmission at a receiver.

Abstract: Fallback procedures for user equipments (UEs) are described that provide efficient fallback to a four-step random access procedure from a two-step random access procedure. For example, after transmitting a first message of a two-step random access procedure, a UE may start a fallback timer or counter and monitor for a second message of the two-step random access procedure for the duration of the fallback timer or counter. At the expiration of the fallback timer or counter, the UE may fall back to a four-step random access procedure. In some cases, the UE may transmit multiple repetitions of the first message and monitor for responses after transmitting the repetitions or after each repetition. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may transmit an explicit signal to the UE that may signal to the UE to perform a fallback procedure at a beginning or middle of a random access procedure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide a number of groups of transmitters, each group of transmitters having at least one user equipment (UE), and each group of transmitters having an associated transmission opportunity (TXO) for transmission of a reference signal. A number of UEs may transmit transmissions to a base station according to non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) techniques in which two or more UEs concurrently transmit to the base station. Depending upon a number of UEs, a number of groups of transmitters, an overloading factor of NOMA transmissions, a system bandwidth, a time span of the reference signal TXO, or any combination thereof, a binary or non-binary orthogonal cover code (OCC) may be applied to transmitted reference signals, which the base station may use to identify reference signals from particular UEs.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to determine a priority indicator for an upcoming transmission between the UE and a base station and transmit the priority indicator to the base station. The base station may receive the priority indicator, determine a network condition, and may transmit control information for a downlink transmission. The control information may include an indication of a set of modulation and coding schemes to select from a plurality of sets of modulation and coding schemes and an index value for an entry in the selected set of modulation and coding scheme, where the indication is based on the priority indicator and a network condition. The UE may identify a combination of a modulation order and a code rate for the downlink transmission based on the indication of modulation and coding scheme table and the index value.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may assign a set of preamble blocks for autonomous uplink transmissions from a preamble block pool. A user equipment (UE) may identify indices for each of a set of indexed sequences to be transmitted over the set of preamble blocks. The UE may select or identify the indices by performing an encoding procedure on a set of parameters. The indices may be applied to the pool of indexed sequences, and the resulting set of sequences may be transmitted over the set of assigned preamble blocks. The base station may recognize composite sequences transmitted from UEs on respective sets of preamble blocks based on the set of sequences. Thus, the base station may identify a data transmission from the UE based on monitoring for and identifying the set of sequences transmitted on the preamble blocks.
