摘要: A strapping assembly for ice-gripping sandal or other device which is arranged readily adjust the tightness of its connection, while enabling its rapid and easy disconnection and reconnection. The strapping assembly includes a first end strap, a bridging strap member, and a second end strap. The first end strap is secured to one side of the sole of the sandal and has a free end portion to which a ring is secured. The second end strap is fixedly secured to the other side of the sole of the sandal and has a free end portion on which a VELCRO.RTM. strip is mounted. The bridging strap includes a VELCRO.RTM. strip on one end for releasable securement to the VELCRO.RTM. strip on the second end strap to secure the bridging strap thereto. The other end of the bridging strap then becomes it free end and is arranged to be extended through the ring and secured in place by other VELCRO.RTM. strips. The connection between the first end strap and bridging strap can be readily disconnected and can be readily reconnected.

摘要: A system and method of use for attaching a safety rope to an elevated portion of a tower, e.g., an electric power transmission tower, so that the rope extends along the tower's leg from the elevated portion to a lower portion, e.g., the ground, to enable a worker may be secured to the rope by a safety device, e.g., a rope grab, to protect the worker from a fall. The system comprises an air rifle for shooting a projectile having a light weight flexible filament secured to it over the elevated portion of the tower, the safety rope, and plural rope-retaining gates. Once the projectile has been shot over the tower to carry the filament over the elevated portion the safety rope is connected to the filament and pulled over the elevated portion of the tower. The safety rope is then secured in place extending vertically between the elevated portion and the ground. Plural gates are mounted on the tower's leg at spaced locations therealong to hold the safety rope close to the tower leg so that it cannot flap or blow around in the wind. A worker can then attach a safety device on the rope and climb up the tower, while being protected from a fall therefrom.

摘要: An convertible overshoe for disposition on one primary shoe and being convertible for disposition on a larger primary shoe. Each of said primary shoes has an outer surface. The overshoe is formed as an integral unit of an elastic material, e.g., rubber, and comprises a sole and an upper. The sole includes anti-slip grit on its outer surface. The upper is in the form of a peripheral sidewall having an opening at the top edge thereof. The opening is of a sufficient size to enable a primary shoe to be extended therethrough so that it is received closely within the overshoe to prevent the overshoe from falling off. The sidewall of the upper includes a reinforcing strip in the form of a continuous thickened bead extending along a portion of the peripheral edge of the opening and spaced below that edge and an associated contiguous portion defining a trim line. The material of the sidewall at the trim line is readily severable so that it can be severed to remove the sidewall portion of the upper from it to the opening. This action forms an enlarged opening in the upper for a larger primary shoe to be extended through it into to overshoe. The reinforcing bead prevents the overshoe from tearing at the enlarged opening should that opening be stretched when the larger primary shoe is inserted therethrough.

摘要: A fall arrest lanyard for use by a worker at an elevated position on a pole, e.g., a telephone pole. The lanyard comprises a flexible strap and a pair of gripping units. The strap is arranged to be releasably connected to the worker to form a loop encircling the pole. Each of the gripping units comprises an elongated, rigid or semi-rigid tubular member having a handgrip at one end, and a first pole penetrating head adjacent the handgrip. In one embodiment, a second pole penetrating head is located at the other end of the tubular member. The strap extends through both tubular members. Each of the penetrating heads has a plurality of larger upper teeth and a plurality of small lower teeth. Each tooth has a horizontally disposed cutting edge. The gripping units are arranged to be manipulated by the worker grasping the handgrips to cause the cutting edges of the teeth to penetrate into the material of the pole.

摘要: A visually inspectable shock absorbing safety lanyard to reduce the shock of gravity when a person wearing a safety support system falls from an elevated position. The lanyard comprises a length of material having a first end adapted to be connected to the person, e.g., via a safety belt or harness, and a second end adapted to be connected to a fall prevention device, e.g. a rope grab, and a shock absorbing mechanism located therebetween. The shock absorbing mechanism is disposed within an inner cover to hold the mechanism in place, to keep it clean and to provide a visual indicator that the mechanism may have been tampered with or previously actuated. A readily openable second cover formed of a flexible material and including a releasably securable opening is disposed about the inner cover and is arranged when opened to provide visual access to the inner cover. In the preferred embodiment, the inner cover enclosing the shock is transparent so that the person using the lanyard also can visually inspect the shock absorber mechanism within the inner cover.

摘要: A bag for mixing powdered skim milk. The bag comprises an outer, conventional flexible dairy bag for holding milk to be distributed commercially. The bag is formed from sheets of plastic, heat sealed along adjacent peripheral edges. An opening is provided through which to fill the bag, the opening provided with a cap or a flexible spigot through which milk within the bag is to be dispensed. The bag further comprises an inner bag of tubular shape made of a frangible plastic sheet and heat sealed along at least two common adjacent seams with the outer bag so that the non-heat-sealing of one of the common seams, when the inner bag is in position, provides external access for filling the inner bag while the inner bag volume remains separated from the outer bag volume.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for changing one or more functional or operational aspects of a wireless device, such as upon the occurrence of a certain event. In one embodiment, the event comprises detecting that the wireless device is within range of one or more other devices. In another variant, the event comprises the wireless device associating with a certain access point. In this manner, various aspects of device functionality may be enabled or restricted (device “policies”). This policy enforcement capability is useful for a variety of reasons, including for example to disable noise and/or light emanating from wireless devices (such as at a movie theater), for preventing wireless devices from communicating with other wireless devices (such as in academic settings), and for forcing certain electronic devices to enter “sleep mode” when entering a sensitive area.
