    Abstract: An apparatus and method for marking availability of a candidate coding block for merge estimation of a current coding block within a coding tree unit, CTU, which includes multiple coding blocks. Initially, the candidate coding block is marked as available. The candidate coding block is marked as unavailable when a predefined location of the candidate coding block is included within an extended merge estimation region, MER. The extended MER includes a current MER in which the current coding block is located and at least a portion of another MER, adjacent to the current MER.

    Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a video decoding method, including: parsing a received bitstream to obtain prediction information of a CU; obtaining a target transform mode of a residual TU; parsing the received bitstream to obtain transform coefficients of the residual TU; applying an inverse quantization to the transform coefficients of the residual TU to obtain dequantized coefficients; applying, based on the target transform mode, an inverse transform to the dequantized coefficients to obtain a residual block of the residual TU; obtaining a prediction block of the CU based on the prediction information; and obtaining a video block based on the residual block and the prediction block; and outputting a video sequence, the video sequence including a video frame that includes the video block.

    Abstract: A method includes: parsing a bitstream to obtain an index value of a candidate motion vector list; constructing the candidate motion vector list, where the candidate motion vector list includes candidate motion vectors of K control points of a current block, the candidate motion vectors of the K control points are obtained based on a 2N-parameter affine transform model used for a neighboring block of the current block, N, K are integers greater than or equal to 2 and less than or equal to 4, and N is not equal to K; determining, in the candidate motion vector list, target candidate motion vectors of the K control points based on the index value; and obtaining a predicted motion vector of each subblock of the current block based on the target candidate motion vectors of the K control points.     Abstract: A video coding mechanism for viewpoint dependent video coding is disclosed. The mechanism includes mapping a spherical video sequence into a plurality of sub-picture video sequences. The mechanism further includes encoding the plurality of sub-picture video sequences as sub-picture bitstreams to support merging of the plurality of sub-picture bitstreams, the encoding ensuring that each sub-picture bitstream is self-referenced and two or more of the sub-picture bitstreams can be merged to generate a single video bitstream using a lightweight bitstream rewriting process that does not involve changing of any block-level coding results. A mergable indication is encoded to indicate that the sub-picture bitstream containing the indication is compatible with a multi-bitstream merge function for reconstruction of the spherical video sequence. A set of the sub-picture bitstreams and the mergable indication are transmitted toward the decoder to support decoding and displaying a virtual reality video viewport.

    Abstract: A non-transitory computer-readable medium for inter-prediction and an encoder are provided. An initial motion vector is obtained for a current block. Search space positions are determined according to the initial motion vector. Matching costs for the search space positions are checked according to a checking order to select a target search space position with a minimal matching cost. A refining motion vector of the current block is determined based on the initial motion vector and the target search space position. A central search space position is determined according to the checking order, and the central search space position is pointed to by the initial motion vector.
