Abstract: A method includes storing a set of touch sense values corresponding to a measured characteristic of at least one unit cell of a plurality of unit cells of the touch array and accessing a correction matrix that defines an active region and an inactive region of the touch array. The inactive region is surrounded by the active region. The method further includes modifying touch sense values of a first subset of the plurality of unit cells that are partially within the active region defined by correction values of the correction matrix.

Abstract: [Problem] To detect touch coordinates, without detection errors and without using a special pen, on a substrate such as a touch panel. [Solution] This coordinate detection method comprises: calculating a ratio between the short-term average (STA) and long-term average (LTA) of output signals from at least three vibration detectors installed apart from each other at predetermined distances on a substrate which has a uniform thickness and is made from a homogeneous material that allows the propagation speeds of oscillating waves to be constant; calculating, as arrival times, the times at which the STA/LTA ratio of the three vibration detectors by oscillating waves generated by touching the substrate exceeds a predetermined threshold value; and calculating touch position coordinates on the basis of each of the arrival times, the propagation speed of the oscillating waves, and the distances at which the three vibration detectors are spaced apart from each other.

Abstract: The shape or position of an object is estimated using a device comprising one or more transmitters and one or more receivers, forming a set of at least two transmitter-receiver combinations. Signals are transmitted from the transmitters, through air, to the object. They are reflected by the object and received by the receivers. A subset of the transmitter-receiver combinations which give rise to a received signal meeting a predetermined clarity criterion is determined. The positions of points on the object are estimated using substantially only signals from the subset of combinations.

Abstract: An apparatus includes an array of pixels, each pixel including in-cell pixel logic and a piezoelectric micromechanical ultrasonic transducer (PMUT) element, each in-cell pixel logic being communicatively coupled with at least one adjacent pixel in the array. Transceiver electronics may operate the array in a selectable one of a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the array may generate a substantially plane ultrasonic wave. In the second mode, the array may generate, from at least one superpixel region, a focused beam of relatively high acoustic pressure, each superpixel region including at least one inner pixel disposed in a central portion of the superpixel region and at least a first group of outer pixels disposed in an outer portion of the superpixel region. The transceiver electronics may be configured to operate the array by configuring at least one in-cell pixel logic.

Abstract: A movement of an object is recognized as a predetermined movement, by transmitting signals between transmitter-receiver pairs, which are reflected from the object. A first event is recorded for one of the transmitter-receiver pairs if a reflected signal meets a predetermined proximity criterion, and a second event is recorded for a second transmitter-receiver pair if, after the first event, a subsequent reflected signal meets a predetermined proximity criterion. The first and second events are used to identify the movement.

Abstract: A new form of 3-dimensional display is provided, employing ultrasonic emitters and receivers that share hardware. The illusion of user interface elements are simulated within an Actuation Area by overlapping ultrasound emitted from different emitters at areas coinciding with modeled elements' surfaces. In some embodiments, the period and phase of the ultrasonic waves are varied relative to one another to create a more compelling simulation of object surfaces. Resistance to movement and haptic feedback are also provided in some techniques, more accurately simulating the actuation of objects. In other embodiments, also applicable to touch screens, the ultrasound hardware provides such haptic feedback in addition to finger or stylus location when actuating a touch screen display. A new method for determining the location and direction of finger or stylus actuation pressure is also provided.

Abstract: The input device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may include a first sensor, a second sensor, or a sensor controller. The first sensor may receive a first acoustic signal generated by an acoustic signal generator. The second sensor may receive an abnormal signal different from the first acoustic signal. The sensor controller may receive a first sensing result from the first sensor and a second sensing result from the second sensor and output the sensing results to the electronic equipment. The first acoustic signal may be received by the first sensor through a housing that covers at least a portion of the electronic equipment. The input device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may sense the acoustic signal and a signal different therefrom, sense whether the electronic equipment is in an abnormal state, and filter the acoustic signal.
