摘要: An automatic scanning apparatus and method for detecting the presence of one or more objects in an image field under investigation or inspection. Electro-optical scanning means, such as a television camera, is employed to scan an image field and generate output electrical signals which vary in accordance with variations in the optical characteristics of the matter and objects in the image field scanned. Such signals are computer processed and analyzed to generate coded electrical signals which define optical characteristics of portion of the image field scanned, such as objects or the images of objects scanned, their shape, color of a combination of color and shape. Electronic means is provided to generate further coded electrical signals which indicate the presence of one or more objects in the image field scanned and may be used to effect intelligent indications thereof, to control one or more devices such as a motor or motors, and/or to provide information for computational purposes to be processed and utilized by a computer. In one form, that shape of an object or objects is detected and coded signals generated are employed to effect a comparison of such shape with information relating to the shapes of known objects to identify the object or objects scanned. In another form, the color or surface characteristics of an object is detected and resulting signals indicative thereof are compared with informatin derived from a memory to identify either the object or its color or surface characteristics. In a third form both shape and color are detected and compared with recorded information for identification purposes.

摘要: A tape cartridge or magazine and reading apparatus therefore are provided wherein tape in the cartridge may be driven past a plurality of transducers supported by a mount for the cartridge when the cartridge is predeterminately located on said mount. The cartridge contains an opening exposing a length of the recording tape to a bank of transducers. In one form, the transducers comprise a plurality of switches arranged in parallel circuits which are made and broken when perforations in the tape are sensed by the switches. In another form, recordings on the tape are sensed by respective transducers disposed off the tape as it is driven therepast. Suitable tape tensioning means associated with the mount is operative after properly mounting the cartridge, to engage and predeterminately provide tension in the tape driven past the bank of transducers. In another form of the invention recording is effected on the tape and the cartridge by a bank of transducers operative to punch holes in the tape as it is driven therepast.

摘要: In a remaining bar material machining method, a plurality of works are taken from a continuous bar material on an NC lathe, and the remaining portion left at the end of the bar material is machined effectively. In the lathe in which both first and second headstocks are axially movable along the bed, the continuous bar material can be continuously machined with efficiency. At that time, to utilize the remaining portion left at the end of the bar material effectively without discarding it, this remaining bar material is transferred to the second headstock. An NC controller includes a main machining program and a remaining bar material machining program; when the remaining bar material has been transferred to the second headstock, the remaining bar material machining program is executed instead of the main machining program having hitherto been executed. During machining the remaining bar material on the second headstock, the first headstock is waiting in readiness for the machining of the next bar material.

摘要: An automatic manipulator capable of performing various programs and adaptively controlled operations with respect to work including operations on work. Automatic tool changing means are provided wherein the manipulator changes tools with respect to its tool holding fixture, tool head or heads. In one form, a plurality of tools to be used are supported on a rack adjacent the manipulator and the manipulator is automatically operated to effect the uncoupling of one or more tools from its operating head and the coupling of one or more tools with respect to such operating head. In another form, the tools are supported by the manipulator itself and the manipulator is automatically controlled to effect the transfer of tools between its operating head and a storage location for the tools. In a third form, tool heads themselves are automatically changed and received either from storage on the manipulator or adjacent the manipulator. In a fourth form, the tool head is composed of a turret containing a plurality of different tools and manipulating devices, which turret is automatically operated to bring a selected tool or fixture into an operative location on the manipulator.

摘要: An adaptive control apparatus is provided with a load detector for detecting a load which acts on a cutting tool during a machining operation of a workpiece and plural storage areas for one cutting tool which respectively store plural data groups of load values which are sampled during respective model machining operations. In an adaptive control machining operation, a microprocessor selects one of the plural storage areas when receiving tool code data that a numerical controller reads out in accordance with a numerical control program. In the adaptive control machining operation controlled by the numerical controller in accordance with the numerical control program, the microprocessor modulates the feed rate override of the numerical controller so that the feed rate of the cutting tool is varied to make the actual machining load detected during the adaptive control machining operation follow the sampled load values which are successively read out from the selected one of the storage areas.

摘要: An automatic production system is provided having a plurality of program controlled machine tools and a conveying system for conveying different units of work to selected of said tools for performing pre-programmed operations on said work. The conveyance for the work comprises a plurality of work holding pallets or carriers which are selectively controlled in their movement to permit work to be transferred to selected machines while bypassing other machines. Each machine tool or selected of said tools may be varied in their operation to perform a variety of different operations on the same type or work or different kinds of work in accordance with command control signals generated by a program control device or computer provided, in one form of the invention, on the work carrier associated with the particular work transferred to the tool. In addition to providing a novel system for the automatic control of both conveying and production machinery serviced thereby, the invention also is directed to subsystems and cooperating components of the conveyance and the machines serviced thereby.
