Another feature of a lid and vessel combination is the provision of a lid receptacle feature, configured to capture the base of a vessel in a stacking arrangement, without utilization of special features on the vessel base. A method of merchandising lids and vessels is described, wherein a lid is provided for separate purchase, a plurality of vessels of different materials is provided for separate purchase which are configured to match to the lid.

Pivotable wing portions extend from each side edge of the lid and each pivotable wing portion is joined to its respective side edge by a hinge. The wing portions are moveable between engaged and disengaged positions, and an inner surface of each wing includes a tab member configured for detent engagement with a rim of the container. The lid also includes corner portions extending between the side edges. Each corner portion includes a skirt portion extending generally in the second direction. Each corner portion also defines a recessed shoulder configured to receive the skirt portion of another when the lids are stacked.

The lid has the lid bottom covering the opening so as to close the accommodating space. When the shoeboxes are stacked up, the box body of one shoebox is placed into the opening of another shoebox and partially received in the accommodating space. This allows the shoeboxes to be staked in a more compact form, thereby saving space for storage and transportation.

The projecting portions are spaced from one another, with each formed to surround a portion of the container rim. A ring is connected to the projecting portions and surrounds the container rim. A plurality of retaining fingers are provided, with each finger spaced from one another and interleaved within the spacing between adjacent projecting portions. The fingers project inwardly from the ring and engage the bead on the container rim. The engagement of the fingers with the container rim is visible through the spacing between the projecting portions.

A ring is frangibly connected to the projecting portions and surrounds container rim. A plurality of retaining fingers or tabs are provided, with each finger spaced from one another and interleaved within the spacing between adjacent projecting portions. The fingers project inwardly from the ring and engage the external sidewall of the container rim. The engagement of the fingers with the container is visible through the spacing between the projecting portions.

摘要： An all-plastic container comprising the combination of injection molded pail and lid. The lid initially locks onto the container at upper and lower undercuts and seals thereto by virtue of an inverted U-shaped peripheral section. A tear groove is formed in the lid skirt between the upper and lower locks to facilitate removal of the lower lock. The upper lock is segmented so as to make removal of the lid easier once the lower lock is removed. Indicia on the lid shows where the gaps in the lock segments are located. The lower lock may also be segmented to provide drainage for overfill which comes out of the pail when the lid is first applied. The lid and pail are dimensioned to provide a wedge seal between an unflanged pail rim and the top lock and to maintain a strong connection and seal even after the lower lock is removed.

A lid includes a plurality of spaced apart resilient flange/protrusion elements extending outwardly from a bottom portion of an annular portion of the lid; the flanges/protrusion elements being snap-fit engageable within an upward facing annular groove of the base.
