Abstract:
Described is a multi-blade cutting and drilling finishing tool for machining deep or stepped bores. The tool comprises at least a first blade set having a nominal diameter and blades distributed essentially uniformly over the circumference. In order to make it easier to guide the tool along the central axis, a guiding strip set in the form of very accurately positioned cutting inserts is located axially behind the first blade set with respect to the axial direction of the tool in which the tool advances forward to machine the deep or stepped bores. Each of the cutting inserts is aligned with one of the blades of the first blade set in a direction parallel to an axis of the tool, and each of the cutting inserts has a nominal diameter which is smaller than the nominal diameter of the first blade set by essentially twice the size of a lubrication gap forming between the guiding strip set and the deep or stepped bores when the tool is used.
Abstract:
The reaming tool (2) comprises a cutting part (8) having a peripherally arranged reaming cutter (10) which, upon rotation about a center axis (4) of the reaming tool (2), defines a cutting circle (16) of nominal diameter (D1). The reaming tool (2) further comprises at least two peripherally arranged guide elements (12A, 12B), which lie on a guide circle (18) arranged eccentrically to the center axis (4) or having a larger diameter (D2) than the cutting circle (16). As a result of this measure, high surface quality is obtained, in particular even in soft materials, since the reaming tool is clamped in the direction of the reaming cutter (10).
Abstract:
The main body (12) of a machine tool (10) comprises a plate seat (18) having a plate element (16) arranged thereon. The plate element (16) has at least one plate edge (38), which protrudes freely to the outside over the plate seat (18) and rests against a bottom support surface of the plate seat (18). The plate element (16) can be fixed to the plate seat (18) by way of a bolt (20) extending through a bore hole in the plate element (16). A first brace (22) for the plate element (16) is provided on the plate seat (18), said brace having a support surface (34) against which the plate element (16) rests non-positively with a lateral plate surface. A further brace (24) is designed on the plate seat (18) for a lateral plate surface of the plate element (16) to rest against non-positively. In order to adjust the plate edge (38) of the plate element (16), an adjustment device (30) is associated with at least one brace (22) and enables the brace (22) to be raised and lowered with respect to the bottom support surface of the plate seat (18). A linear guide (50) is provided for said at least one brace (22), said guide absorbing the forces and torque occurring during the adjustment of the plate element (16) and introducing them into the main body (12) of the machine tool (10).
Abstract:
Described is a multi-blade cutting and drilling finishing tool, in particular a reamer, for machining deep, especially stepped bores. Said tool comprises a set of blades having a predetermined nominal diameter and blades that are distributed in a substantially regular manner along the circumference. In order to make it easier to guide the tool along the central axis, a set of guiding strips in the form of very accurately placed and preferably cylindrically ground cutting inserts is located behind the set of blades in the advancing direction. Each of said cutting inserts is axially flush with the blades of the adjacent set of blades in the advancing direction of the tool and has a nominal diameter which is smaller than the nominal diameter of the set of blades substantially by twice the size of a lubrication gap forming when the tool is used.

Each active part has a peripheral surface including: a radial cutting edge (20, 120) that is at a cutting distance (Rc) from the longitudinal axis, a clearance face (30, 130) that is at a final clearance distance (Rd) from the longitudinal axis, and a control face (40, 140) that is at a penetration control distance (Rp) from the longitudinal axis. These distances satisfy the relation: 0

Abstract:
The invention relates to a reamer R comprising a base body (1) with a cutting element (2) and at least one guiding strip (3) aligned essentially axially with an abutment surface (31) and a guiding surface (32), whereby the guiding strip (3) is connected to the base body (1) in the area of the abutment surface (31). In order to be able to work different materials with a single reamer R over a long period of use of the reamer R, it is proposed according to the invention that the guiding strip (3) is formed of layered bodies (41, 42) with different materials running from the guiding surface (32) to the abutment surface (31).
Abstract:
A cutting blade 16, and a method of securing the blade 16 in a reamer 11 having an axial recess 19 in the body 13 of the reamer. The cutting blade 16 has parallel serrations 35 in its rear face 37 extending normally of each cutting edge 34 and is clamped to mutually interengagable parallel serrations 36 on the reamer 11 which extend radially thereof. The cutting edge 34 of the blade 16 is adjusted to a new position by movement of the blade along the radial serrations 36 using a single adjuster means 42.

Abstract:
A reamer for finish machining a bore formed in a workpiece and method for providing a reamer with an abrasion resistant material. The reamer includes a body defining an outer surface, a cutting blade and guide member each coupled to the body, and an abrasion resistant material coupled to the reamer to form a friction resistant layer having a contact surface thereon. The abrasion resistant material impregnates the reamer to define an intermediate layer of abrasion resistant material intermixed with the reamer. The method includes the steps of assembling the reamer, applying an abrasion resistant material to said reamer, and allowing the abrasion resistant material to impregnate the reamer to define an intermediate layer of abrasion resistant material intermixed with the reamer.
Abstract:
The operating life of the two guide members in a single bit reamer is increased by shaping the peripheral surface of the guide members with a radius of curvature less than the radius of the bore being machined. Contact between each guide member and the bore wall takes place only along a central quest area extending in the lengthwise direction of each guide member. This allows coating of the peripheral surfaces of the guide members with a hard, wear resistant material. Further, the guide members may be fastened to the cutter head by means of a screw situated in a groove extending in the tangential direction along the peripheral surface of each guide member. This increases the lubricating and cooling effect.
