Apparatuses and methods for reproducing an image in a plurality of displays are provided. The method includes obtaining a display identifier that identifies a position of a display among the plurality of displays, based on information on an arrangement of the plurality of displays transmitted by the image reproduction control apparatus; obtaining an image segment to be reproduced in a display corresponding to the display identifier among the plurality of displays, from the image; determining the importance factor of the image segment based on at least one of the image and the viewing environment of the plurality of displays; generating an encoded image segment by encoding the image segment according to an encoding method corresponding to the importance factor; and transmitting a bitstream including the display identifier, the importance factor and the encoded image segment to the image reproduction control apparatus.

Provided are methods and apparatuses for encoding and decoding a multiview video. The method of decoding the multiview video includes obtaining a data unit including encoding information of texture pictures and depth map pictures of a multiview image related to a same point of time, obtaining, from the data unit, view information of pictures that are encoded and are included in the data unit, type information indicating a type of each of the pictures from among the texture pictures and the depth map pictures, and reference flag information indicating whether each of the pictures is previously inter-layer predicted by referring to a texture picture of the same point of time or to a depth map picture of the same point of time, determining an encoding order of the pictures, based on the obtained information, and decoding the texture pictures and depth map pictures based on the determined encoding order.

Provided are a method and apparatus for decoding a multiview video and a method and apparatus for encoding a multiview video. The decoding method includes: receiving multiview image streams that configure the multiview video; obtaining, from a predetermined data unit header that includes information of a base-view picture included in a base-view image stream, picture order count (POC) information of the base-view picture; determining, using the POC information of the base-view picture, a POC of the base-view picture, based on an instantaneous decoding refresh (IDR) picture of a base-view; and determining, using the POC of the base-view picture, a POC of an additional-view picture that is included in a same access unit as the base-view picture and is transmitted.

Methods and apparatuses for decoding and encoding video are provided. A method includes obtaining bit strings corresponding to current transformation coefficient level information by arithmetic decoding a bitstream based on a context model that indicates a probability as to whether a bit from a bit string is a one or a zero, updating or maintaining a previous binarization parameter based on a comparison of a predetermined value and a size of a previous transformation coefficient, obtaining the current transformation coefficient level information by performing de-binarization of the bit strings using the determined current binarization parameter, and generating a size of a current transformation coefficient using the current transformation coefficient level information.

Provided are an image encoding method and apparatus, and an image decoding method and apparatus. The image encoding method includes: obtaining a variation of a motion estimation error with respect to a homogeneity degree of a motion vector according to mergence, based on a motion vector of each of merged blocks obtained by merging adjacent blocks, motion vectors of the adjacent blocks included in each of the merged blocks, and motion vectors of neighboring blocks of each of the merged blocks; and determining, based on the obtained variation, a merged block having a smallest variation from among the merged blocks and whether to merge the adjacent blocks included in the determined merged block.
