Abstract: A method and apparatus use an Inter coding tool and OBMC (Overlapped Block Motion Compensation). According to one implementation, a method of video coding using OBMC (Overlapped Block Motion Compensation) operates by receiving input data associated with a current block, wherein the input data correspond to pixel data to be coded at an encoder side or coded data to be decoded at a decoder side, applying the OBMC to the current block depending on one or more constraints, and signaling an OBMC syntax conditionally at the encoder side or parsing the OBMC syntax conditionally at the decoder side for the current block, wherein the OBMC syntax indicates whether the OBMC is applied to the current block.

Abstract: Exemplary video processing methods and apparatuses for coding a current block by overlapped sub-block motion compensation split the current block into overlapped sub-blocks, determine a sub-block MV for each overlapped sub-block, derive an initial predictor for each sub-block by motion compensation using the sub-block MV, derive a final predictor for each overlapped region by blending the initial predictors of the overlapped region, and encode or decode the current block based on the final predictors. Exemplary video processing methods and apparatuses for coding blocks with OBMC generate a converted MV by changing a MV to an integer MV or changing a MV component to an integer component, derive an OBMC region by motion compensation using the converted MVs, and encode or decode the blocks by blending an OBMC predictor with an original predictor.

Abstract: A video coder that implements illumination compensation is provided. The video coder receives a first block of pixels in a first video picture to be coded as a current block, wherein the current block is associated with a motion vector that references a second block of pixels in a second video picture as a reference block. The video coder performs inter-prediction for the current block by using the motion vector to generate a set of motion-compensated pixels for the current block. The video coder modifies the set of motion-compensated pixels of the current block by applying a linear model that is computed based on neighboring samples of the reference block and of the current block. The neighboring samples are identified based on a position of the current block within a larger block.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a video coding method for processing a current prediction unit (PU) with a sub-PU temporal motion vector prediction (TMVP) mode. The method can include receiving the current PU including sub-PUs, determining an initial motion vector that is a motion vector of a spatial neighboring block of the current PU, performing a searching process to search for a main collocated picture in a sequence of reference pictures of the current PU based on the initial motion vector, and obtaining collocated motion information in the main collocated picture for the sub-PUs of the current PU. The searching process can include turning on motion vector scaling operation for searching a subset of the sequence of reference pictures, and turning off the motion vector scaling operation for searching the other reference pictures in the sequence of reference pictures.

The method includes determining a set of affine merge candidate (AMC) positions of a set of AMC blocks coded using affine motion models for a current block in a current picture. The set of AMC blocks includes at least one of: a set of AMC side blocks that are spatially neighboring blocks located on one or more sides of the current block in the current picture and an AMC temporal block in a reference picture of the current block. The current block is predicted from the reference picture using a merge mode. The method includes generating a set of affine merge candidates for the current block corresponding to the set of AMC blocks, and constructing a merge candidate list for the current block including the set of affine merge candidates.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for video coding are disclosed. According to the method, a set of MC (Motion Compensation) candidates with each MC candidate comprising predicted samples for coding boundary pixels of the current block are determined. The set of MC candidates comprises a first candidate, and wherein the first candidate corresponds to a weighted sum of first predicted pixels generated according to first motion information of the current block and second predicted pixels generated according to second motion information of a neighbouring boundary block of the current block. Boundary matching costs associated with the set of MC candidates are determined respectively. A final candidate is determined from the set of MC candidates based on the boundary matching costs. The current block is encoded or decoded using the final candidate.

Abstract: A video coding system that uses multiple models to predict chroma samples is provided. The video coding system receives data for a block of pixels to be encoded or decoded as a current block of a current picture of a video. The system constructs two or more chroma prediction models based on luma and chroma samples neighboring the current block. The system applies the two or more chroma prediction models to incoming or reconstructed luma samples of the current block to produce two or more model predictions. The system computes predicted chroma samples by combining the two or more model predictions. The system uses the predicted chroma samples to reconstruct chroma samples of the current block or to encode the current block.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for template matching with a determined area are disclosed. According to this method, a current template comprising current neighbouring pixels on an above side of the current block, on a left side of the current block, or a combination thereof for a current block is received. An area in a reference picture is then determined, where the reference picture corresponds to a previously coded picture. A matching result between a restricted reference template of a reference block and the current template is then determined, wherein the restricted reference template is generating by using only neighbouring reference pixels of a reference template inside the determined area, the reference template has a same shape as the current template, and a location of the reference template is determined according to a target motion vector (MV) from the current template.
