Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an acid-curable composition, comprising: a) abase component comprising a cationically self-curable oligomeric compound; and b) a curing system for the cationically self-curable oligomeric compound, which comprises an ionogenic compound comprising an anion and an aminium ion as a cation. According to another aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a curing system suitable for an acid-curable composition comprising a cationically self-curable oligomeric compound. According to still another aspect, the present disclosure relates to a method of manufacturing an acid-curable composition. In yet another aspect, the disclosure relates to the use of an acid-curable composition for industrial applications, in particular for thermal management applications in the automotive industry.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides compositions, articles, and methods related to altering electromagnetic radiation. An actinic radiation curable precursor composition of a three-dimensional article includes a) a resin comprising an actinic radiation curable component, wherein the resin has a viscosity no greater than 500 cP; b) hollow glass microspheres having a density no greater than 2 g/mL and an average diameter no greater than 200 micrometers; and c) a photoinitiator. At least part of the surface of the hollow glass microspheres comprises a surface coating or modification. An article includes a photo(co)polymerization reaction product of the composition. A method of manufacturing a three-dimensional article includes the steps of a) providing an actinic radiation curable precursor composition; and b) selectively exposing a portion of the composition to a source of actinic radiation to at least partially cure the exposed portion of the composition, thereby forming a cured layer. Steps a) and b) are repeated so as to form a three-dimensional article. A three-dimensional article is provided, obtained according to the method. Methods of interfering with electromagnetic radiation originating from an electromagnetic radiation producing device are provided, including integrating an article into the electronic device or placing an article in the vicinity of the electromagnetic radiation producing device.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods, articles, and apparatuses related to altering electromagnetic radiation. A method of making articles includes a) forming an electromagnetic radiation altering material by providing a polymer matrix and optionally embedding dielectric particles in the polymer matrix and b) obtaining initial dielectric properties of the electromagnetic radiation altering material. The method further includes c) modeling electromagnetic radiation altering features of the material suitable for the article obtained from the material to have target electromagnetic radiation altering properties, thereby obtaining a simulation of the electromagnetic radiation altering article; and d) additive manufacturing the electromagnetic radiation altering article based on the simulation of the electromagnetic radiation altering article. An electromagnetic radiation altering article obtained by the method is also provided. Further, an apparatus is provided including the electromagnetic radiation altering article. Methods of altering electromagnetic radiation are provided, including integrating an electromagnetic radiation altering article into either an electronic device or an electromagnetic radiation producing device, or placing the article in the vicinity of the device. Aspects of the present disclosure advantageously contribute to achieving optimized materials and designs for electromagnetic radiation altering articles.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a thermally conductive article including a pad having first and second opposed major surfaces and a thickness therebetween. The thickness is formed of entangled thermally conductive fibers and at least a portion of the entangled thermally conductive fibers have at least one terminal end at the first opposed major surface, the opposed second major surface, or both. The pad is at least partially impregnated with a polymer. Another thermally conductive article is provided including a) a pad having first and second opposed major surfaces and a thickness therebetween; b) a first thermally conductive skin layer; and c) a second thermally conductive skin layer. The thickness of the pad is formed of aligned thermally conductive fibers, and at least a portion of the thermally conductive fibers have a terminal end at the first opposed major surface and the opposed second major surface. The first and second thermally conductive skin layers each include a polymeric matrix at least partially embedded in the terminal end of at least a portion of the thermally conductive fibers at the first and second major surfaces of the pad, respectively. Methods of making the thermally conductive articles are also provided.
