摘要: An additional chamber to watercraft that adds both volume and curvature to other compartments or components of the watercraft that are essentially flat is described. The additional chamber provides for modular construction of watercraft for creating volumetric space as well as a curved surface to the outer portion of the watercraft. The chamber advantageously increases the aesthetic appeal of the watercraft as well as provides a surface on which water is discouraged from pooling or collecting on. Various watercrafts having such a chamber are also described.

摘要: A system and method for selectively treating aberrant cells such as cancer cells through administration of a train of electrical pulses is described. The pulse length and delay between successive pulses is optimized to produce effects on intracellular membrane potentials. Therapies based on the system and method produce two treatment zones: an ablation zone surrounding the electrodes within which aberrant cells are non-selectively killed and a selective treatment zone surrounding the ablation zone within which target cells are selectively killed through effects on intracellular membrane potentials. As a result, infiltrating tumor cells within a tumor margin can be effectively treated while sparing healthy tissue. The system and method are useful for treating various cancers in which solid tumors form and have a chance of recurrence from microscopic disease surrounding the tumor.

摘要: The present invention provides methods, devices, and systems for in vivo treatment of cell proliferative disorders. Included is a method of treating tissue with electrical energy, the method comprising: delivering electrical energy to tissue using one or more electroporation devices comprising one or more electrodes; and cooling the tissue, surrounding tissue, one or more of the electrodes, or one or more of the electroporation devices to minimize heating. In embodiments, the invention can be used to treat solid tumors, such as brain tumors, and in some embodiments, exemplary methods rely on non-thermal irreversible electroporation (IRE) to cause cell death in treated tumors.

摘要: A medical system for ablating a tissue site with real-time monitoring during an electroporation treatment procedure. A pulse generator generates a pre-treatment (PT) test signal having a frequency of at least 1 MHz prior to the treatment procedure and intra-treatment (IT) test signals during the treatment procedure. A treatment control module determines impedance values from the PT test signal and IT test signals and determines a progress of electroporation and an end point of treatment in real-time based on the determined impedance values while the treatment progresses.

摘要: The present invention relates to the field of optical imaging and therapeutics. More particularly, embodiments of the present invention provide minimally-invasive Fiberoptic Microneedle Devices (FMDs) for light-based therapeutics, which physically penetrate tissue and deliver light directly into the target area below the skin surface. Embodiments of the invention enable depth-selective and deep photothermal therapeutics and include methods of treating cancer, methods of re-shaping or removing adipose tissue, and methods of delivering drugs or co-delivering drugs and energy to selected tissue.

摘要: The present invention relates to tooling and methods for disposing, coating, building up, repairing, or otherwise modifying the surface of a metal substrate using frictional heating and compressive loading of a consumable metal material against the substrate. Embodiments of the invention include friction-based fabrication tooling comprising a non-consumable member with a throat and a consumable member disposed in the throat, wherein the throat is operably configured such that during rotation of the non-consumable member at a selected speed, the throat exerts normal forces on and rotates the consumable member at the selected speed; and comprising means for dispensing the consumable member through the throat and onto a substrate using frictional heating and compressive loading. Embodiments of the invention also include fabrication methods using the tools described herein.

摘要: A hybrid power converter system that comprises a first power bus connected to a DC power source, a second power bus connected to an AC load, and a third power bus connected to an energy storage device. One or more power converters are connected to the first power bus in parallel and are connected with the second and third power buses, each by a switch. The system includes a first switch for connecting or disconnecting a power converter to or from the second power bus and a second switch for connecting or disconnecting the power converter to or from the third power bus, to switch the source of power being provided to the AC load either from the DC power source or the energy storage device. With additional power converters connected into the system in a similar manner, several combinations of power supply are possible.

摘要: Processes for bonding lignocellulosic substrates without an added adhesive are described. The processes of the invention may include exposing the surfaces of the lignocellulosic substrate to a rapid heating source to cause one or more physical, chemical, or other modifications on the surface of the substrate. As a result of the modifications, the surfaces may form a bond with another substrate under elevated temperatures and pressures, for example, produced by a means for pressing such as a conventional hot press used in the woodworking arts. The processes allow a variety of composites such as wood materials for use in the furniture making or construction industries to be manufactured. As the processes forgo the need for petroleum-based adhesives, they are more environmentally sound and occupationally safe than prior art wood product manufacturing methods. Additionally, composite materials made by the processes of the invention are described.

摘要: The present invention relates to the field of mortarless, brick- and stone-like veneer systems for walls. More particularly, the present invention relates to suspension rails for providing mortarless or mortar-optional installations of brick- and stone-like panels for covering walls. Embodiments of the invention provide a cage-type suspension rail configured to be partially embedded in the panel and a universal hanging bracket that provides pullout resistance for the panels. An exemplary suspension rail comprises: a first four-sided frame with horizontally and vertically disposed sides; a plurality of posts disposed on and perpendicular to the first frame or the cross bars; a second four-sided frame in communication with the plurality of posts; an upper tab in communication with the first frame for connecting the rail to a surface; wherein the upper tab is disposed outside a perimeter of the first frame and a perimeter of a second frame.
