Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a method of video coding includes receiving input data associated with a first block and a second block of an image frame. The method further includes identifying a reference size and performing a deblocking process if it is determined that the deblocking process is to be performed. The preforming the deblocking process may include processing pixels adjacent to the block boundary using a first set of deblocking filter settings if a first block size of the first block and a second block size of the second block are greater than the reference size, and processing the pixels using a second set of deblocking filter settings if the first block size or the second block size is not greater than the reference size.

Abstract: A video coder that implicitly signals or decides transform settings based on intra prediction settings is provided. The video coder receives input data associated with a current block. The video coder determines a current intra prediction mode for the current block and maps the current intra prediction mode to a target transform mode. In one example, the video coder encodes the current block by performing a transform operation according to the target transform mode on the prediction residuals of the current block generated according to the current intra prediction mode. In another example, the video coder decodes the current block by performing an inverse transform operation according to the target transform mode on the coded prediction residuals of the current block, in which the coded prediction residuals is derived from the bitstream and is generated according to the current intra prediction mode.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for alternative transforms in a video coding system according to a control flag are disclosed. In one embodiment, the control flag for the current PU is determined. If the control flag is on, a first transform is applied to each current TU (transform unit) at an encoder side or an inverse transform of the first transform is applied to each current TU at a decoder side if the current TU has a first boundary type. Furthermore, a second transform is used for each current TU if the current TU has a second boundary type. The first transform is different from the second transform. On the other hand, if the control flag is off, a selected transform is used for each current TU.

Abstract: A video codec that encodes or decodes video sequences using decoder-side motion vector refinement is provided. The video codec identifies a first motion vector and a second motion vector for coding a current block of pixels of a current video frame in the video sequence. The video codec determines whether to perform motion vector refinement for the current block of pixels based on a comparison between a linear dimension of the current block of pixels and a threshold. When motion vector refinement is performed, the video codec refines the first and second motion vectors to minimize a distortion cost and codes the current block of pixels by using the refined first and second motion vectors. When motion vector refinement is not performed, the video codec codes the current block of pixels by using the identified first and second motion vectors.

Abstract: A method of bi-predictive Inter prediction mode using a uni-predictive motion vector and a second motion vector associated with a Merge candidate is disclosed. In the encoder side, the coded motion information for a uni-prediction motion vector for the current block is generated using a motion vector predictor selected from a motion vector prediction (MVP) candidate list. Furthermore, a Merge candidate with a second motion vector pointing to the other prediction direction is identified according to a Merge index. The uni-prediction motion vector and the second motion vector from the Merge candidate are used for bi-prediction encoding of the current block. In the decoder side, the corresponding decoding process is disclosed.

Abstract: In one implementation, a method operates by receiving neighboring reconstructed first-color pixels and current reconstructed first-color pixels of a current first-color block and receiving neighboring reconstructed second-color pixels of a current second-color block collocated with the current first-color block. The method then determines linear model (LM) parameters according to a linear model for one or more LM Intra modes. The method then receives input data associated with current second-color pixels of the current second-color block and generates a cross-color Intra predictor from the current reconstructed first-color pixels of the current first-color block using the LM parameters associated with a LM Intra mode selected from said one or more LM Intra modes. Finally, the method applies cross-color Intra prediction encoding or decoding to the current second-color pixels of the current second-color block using the cross-color Intra predictor for the selected LM Intra mode.

Abstract: An efficient signaling method for multiple transforms to further improve coding performance is provided. Rather than using code words that are assigned to different transforms in a predetermined and fixed manner, different transform modes are mapped into different code words dynamically. A predetermined procedure is used to assign the code words to the different transform modes. A cost is computed for each candidate transform mode and the transform mode with the smallest cost is chosen as the predicted transform mode, and the chosen predicted transform mode is assigned the shortest code word.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a video coding method for processing a current prediction unit (PU) with a sub-PU temporal motion vector prediction (TMVP) mode. The method can include receiving the current PU including sub-PUs, determining an initial motion vector that is a motion vector of a spatial neighboring block of the current PU, performing a searching process to search for a main collocated picture in a sequence of reference pictures of the current PU based on the initial motion vector, and obtaining collocated motion information in the main collocated picture for the sub-PUs of the current PU. The searching process can include turning on motion vector scaling operation for searching a subset of the sequence of reference pictures, and turning off the motion vector scaling operation for searching the other reference pictures in the sequence of reference pictures.

One method selects a transform type from multiple allowable transform types based on the TU size and applies the selected transform type to the transform units of the inter-layer prediction processed data. Another method derives multiple motion candidates for the EL video data coded in Merge mode or Inter mode based on motion information associated with the corresponding BL video data.
