    Abstract: An apparatus configured to encode or decode video data that includes a memory configured to store at least one reconstructed sample of video data and at least one processor, in communication with the memory, that is configured to identify at least one reconstructed sample, determine at least one extended angular intra prediction mode to use for intra prediction of at least one sample of a current block, intra predict, using the at least one extended angular intra prediction mode, at least one sample of the current block based on the at least one reconstructed sample, extended angular intra prediction modes including angular intra prediction modes other than angular prediction modes between horizontal −45 degrees and vertical −45 degrees, and encode or decode the current block based on the at least one predicted sample.

    Abstract: Techniques related to derivation of motion vectors of a first color component (e.g., chroma component) from motion vectors of a second color component (e.g., luma component) are described. A video coder (e.g., video encoder or video decoder), for a CU coded in affine mode with 4:4:4 color format, may determine a motion vector for each sub-block of the luma block, and determine a motion vector for each sub-block of the chroma block based only on the motion vector for each co-located (also called collocated) sub-block of the luma block. However, for another CU coded in affine mode but with a color format other than 4:4:4 (e.g., 4:2:2 or 4:2:0), the video coder may determine a motion vector for each sub-block of the chroma block based on an average of two or more motion vectors of sub-blocks of the luma block.

    Abstract: An example video coding system may determine a first coding mode for a first block of video data of a plurality of blocks of video data in a processing area. The video coding system may compare a characteristic of the processing area to a threshold. The video coding system may determine whether to enable or disable use of a second coding mode for the remainder of the plurality of blocks of video data in the processing area based on the comparison. The video coding system may code the first block based on the first coding mode and code at least one block of the remainder of the plurality of blocks of video data based on the comparison.

    Abstract: An example device applies a primary transform to a current block of video data to create primary transform coefficients. The device determines whether intra sub-partitioning is applied to the current block of video data. The device applies a primary transform to the current block. The device also determines whether a primary transform size for the current block of video data is at least a predetermined size. Based on intra sub-partitioning being applied and the primary transform size being at least the predetermined size, the device applies a secondary transform to primary transform coefficients and codes the current block of video data based on the secondary transform.

    Abstract: In one example, a device includes a memory configured to store the video data; and one or more processors implemented in circuitry and configured to determine a plurality of distances between a first representative point of a current block of video data and a plurality of second representative points of neighboring blocks to the current block, add one or more of the neighboring blocks as candidates to a candidate list of the current block in an order according to the distances between the first representative point and the second representative points, and code the current block using the candidate list. The candidate list may be, for example, a merge list, an AMVP list, or a most probable mode list. Alternatively, the candidate list may be a list of candidates from which to determine context information for context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC).

    Abstract: An example method of coding video data includes selecting, by one or more processors a sub-set of a plurality of neighboring samples of a current block in a current picture, wherein the plurality of neighboring samples includes a row of samples adjacent to a top row of the current block in the current picture and a column of samples adjacent to a left column of the current block in the current picture; deriving, by the one or more processors and based on the sub-set of the plurality of neighboring samples in the current picture, local illumination compensation (LIC) parameters for the current block; and performing, by the one or more processors and based on the LIC parameters, LIC on samples of the current block to generate compensated samples of the current block.
