Abstract: The examples relate to various implementations to enable simultaneous controllable lighting distribution and a wide angle image light output from areas of a luminaire. An example of such a luminaire includes image light emitters and an array of general illumination light emitters for general illumination. A grid structure that has a supporting grid of rows and columns with intersection points and transparent sections or gaps is used to maintain a spaced arrangement of the general illumination light emitters and the image light emitters. Each of the transparent sections is bounded by individual structural members of the grid meeting at individual intersection points. In a specific example, image light emitters are located at intersection points of the grid structure. The general illumination light emitters are optically coupled for emitting general illumination light through the transparent sections of the grid.

Abstract: A projection lamp includes a transparent first shell, a second shell connected with the first shell, a light source seat, a light source fixed on the light source seat, a hollow cylinder-shaped light processing cylinder, and a driving device connected with the light processing cylinder. The light source and at least one part of the light source seat are received in the light processing cylinder, and do not rotate along with the light processing cylinder. The projection lamp of the present invention utilizes the light processing cylinder, so that a pattern projected is in a rolling state, and is unlikely to cause a dizzy feeling. Due to the fact that the transparent first shell is adopted, through a preset light processing effect designed on the first shell, the change of the projected pattern is more abundant and more interesting.

Abstract: A cellular electrowetting array, e.g. for a luminaire, includes a liquid container having opposing transparent windows. The container contains conductive and non-conductive liquids. A grid wall extends from one of the windows at least partially across the interior volume of the container toward the opposite window. The grid wall divides the interior volume into cellular fluidic optics, each containing some conductive liquid and some non-conductive liquid. The individual cells may be square, although other shapes may be used. A first electrode electrically connects to the grid wall; and a second electrode contacts the conductive liquid. System examples combine such an electrowetting array with a positive or negative lens array, e.g. optically coupled to one of the windows of the array. The electrowetting array or a system combining that array with another lens array may be utilized in a luminaire, e.g. to provide a tunable distribution of the general illumination output.

Abstract: A light source module includes an array of illumination elements and a light diffusing material. The light source module is configured to receive a control signal for adjusting diffusion of light emitted from the light source module and in response adjust the amount of diffusion of light emitted from the light source module. A light source module may include a segmented light diffusing material where each segment is associated with an illumination element. And individual segments may have light diffusing properties that are different than other segments of the light diffusing material. Some illumination elements may emit light of a different color spectrum than other illumination elements, and a light diffusing material may scatter the different colored light to illuminate a scene with combinations of light of different colors. A light source module may be embedded in a mobile computing device.

Abstract: An adaptable skylight includes a frame facing an interior of an enclosure having an opening for allowing light to pass. An aircraft skylight assembly includes a variable pane, an artificial light source for illuminating portions of the skylight assembly, and a controller configured for adjusting an amount of external light transmission through the variable pane and an amount of artificial light illumination. An internal ambiance lighting system includes the adaptable skylight having a dimmable pane for providing transmission of a variable amount of external light into an enclosure, the artificial light illuminates the frame surrounding the adaptable skylight, and the controller automatically adjusts external light transmission through the adaptable skylight and illumination of the frame based on a lighting preference.
