摘要: A multi-furnace control system selectively delivers preselected percentages of available power to furnaces of the system, preferably designated as either a melt furnace or a hold furnace. The power supply delivers power to both furnaces. A capacitor station in parallel connection to the power supply and the furnaces is tuned to form a tank circuit therewith. Switches control the selected power delivered to the furnaces respectively and control the delivery of a first portion of the power for holding molten product in the hold furnace as the master control. A remaining portion of the power is then delivered for melting product in the melt furnace. The capacitor station acts as a reactive tank for both furnaces.

摘要: Apparatus to float and melt particularly small pieces of high-melting point metal continuously while making the amount of meltable liquid metal greater than the capacity of a crucible. A conductive crucible having segments includes an upper cylindrical crucible portion and a lower closed-end crucible portion. An induction coil is arranged outside the upper crucible portion, whereas an induction coil is arranged below the induction coil. The lower crucible portion is in contact with the upper crucible portion and located on the inside of the induction coil at the initial melting stage. The lower crucible portion is lowered as a columnar metal grows and solidifies between molten metal and the lower crucible portion. A continuous feeder continuously feeds cold material. A molten metal surface thermometer and a molten metal surface level gauge are arranged above the crucible. The operation of the continuous feeder is regulated within a desired range of values of the molten metal surface thermometer. On the other hand, the lower crucible portion is successively lowered within a desired range of values of the molten metal surface level gauge.

摘要: An apparatus for heating molten metal including a ladle provided with a refractory heat insulating material and first core members arranged in pairs and attached to the outside of the ladle. A tray capable of mounting said ladle carries second cores with magnetic pole portions at both ends of said so as to face the ladle mounted first cores. A coil if provided for exciting the second cores. The first cores and magnetic pole portions of second cores are located at the outer circumferential portion of the ladle to face each other radially in a manner to facilitate placement and removal of the ladle to and from the tray. Position sensors and means are provided to ensure positional accuracy of the first ladle carried cores and the poles of the second cores. Also the coil are physically and thermally protected from ladle heat by appropriate shock absorbing and thermal insulating provisions. Thermal protection of the cores further enhanced by cooling embodiments. The ladle by itself or the ladle and tray may be enclosed in a vacuum chamber.

摘要: Apparatus and method for providing a constant level of molten metal to a mold in gas permeable shell mold casting. The apparatus includes a furnace for melting and holding metal to be cast. Structure is provided for locating a mold to be filled in casting relationship with the molten metal in the furnace and for causing molten metal to be drawn from the furnace into the mold. Structure responsive to the sensor is provided for tilting the furnace relative to the mold causing the level of the molten metal to remain constant relative to the mold as the mold is being filled.

摘要: The metallurgical vessel comprises a continuous wall and a bottom plate and such vessel constitutes a mold for electrically remelting an electrode by resistance heating of an electrically conductive slag bath. The metallurgical vessel further comprises solenoids for generating an electromagnetic field which is controlled by control means operatively connected to a reference signal generator and to magnetic measuring means like Hall generators preferably arranged tangentially relative to the vessel.

摘要: The device includes a chamber for holding a metal in the liquid state having a lower section that communicates with three channels which converge to form a single passage wherein two of the channels include inductor cores around which the channel forms an annular zone to contain the metal. In the presence of alternating currents of variable voltage and phase, the inductors can be energized separately or simultaneously to perform the heating, mixing and transferring operations within the channels.

摘要: Solid pieces of metal, such as steel scrap and ferrous pellets, are charged in a basin having a refractory inside and progressively melted down by an electric induction heater positioned above the basin and the charge. As melt collects in the bottom of the basin it is continuously or intermittently tapped into a storage container having heating means for keeping the melt molten. This prevents the melt level in the basin's bottom from rising uncontrollably.

摘要: Materials of low electrical conductivity, such as minerals and metal compounds, are floated on a metal melt which is itself heated by a channel-type electric inductor, the heat from the melt transferring to the material. A pneumatic blast is injected into the melt so that the interface between it and the material is caused to dynamically undulate, promoting the heat exchange from the melt to the material. The blast can carry particles of additive or reactive agents.
