Abstract: A position of a user equipment (UE) may be determined using downlink based solutions (e.g. OTDOA), uplink based solutions (e.g. UTDOA), or combined downlink and uplink based solutions (e.g. RTT). The serving gNBs may request neighboring gNBs to produce downlink reference signal transmissions to a target UE and/or measure uplink reference signal transmissions from the target UE. The serving gNB may receive the uplink reference signal measurements from neighboring gNBs and obtain an own uplink reference signal measurement and forward to the UE or another network entity all the uplink reference signal measurements. The UE may use the uplink reference signal measurements, along with the UE's own downlink reference signal measurements to determine RTTs. The serving gNBs or another entity may keep the uplink reference signal measurements and may determine RTTs after receiving the downlink reference signal measurements from the UE.

Abstract: In some implementations, a server may obtain wireless network coverage information from crowdsourcing devices, where the wireless network coverage information indicates characteristics of wireless network coverage at different locations along various routes of travel. Abstract: Sidelink positioning of a plurality of UEs may be performed using a sidelink (SL) positioning protocol (SLPP) in either a session mode or a sessionless mode. In the session mode, one UE in the plurality of UEs may discover the other UEs, determine a session for SLPP, indicate the session to the other UEs, and exchange a plurality of SLPP messages with the other UEs, where the SLPP messages are part of the session and enable the sidelink positioning. In the sessionless mode, a UE may not discover some or all other UEs in the plurality of UEs and may exchange a plurality of SLPP messages with the other UEs, where the SLPP messages are not part of a session but enable the sidelink positioning. The two modes may each apply to SL positioning using SL PRS signals as well as WiFi, UWB and GNSS signals.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for positioning of a mobile device in a wireless network using directional positioning reference signals (PRS), also referred to as PRS beamforming. In an example method, a plurality of directional PRSs are generated for at least one cell for a base station, such that each of the plurality of directional PRSs comprises at least one signal characteristic and a direction of transmission, either or both of which may be distinct or unique. The plurality of directional PRSs is transmitted within the at least one cell, such that each of the plurality of directional PRSs is transmitted in the direction of transmission. A mobile device may acquire and measure at least one of the directional PRSs which may be identified using the associated signal characteristic. The measurement may be used to assist position methods such as OTDOA and ECID and to mitigate multipath.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for supporting positioning of a target user equipment (UE) that accesses a wireless network via a mobile base station relay (MBSR). The MBSR functions as an Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) node accessing the wireless network via a donor base station. The MBSR receives a request for positioning information from a location server via the donor base station related to positioning of the target UE. After determining the positioning information by performing positioning functions of a base station, the MBSR returns the positioning information to the location server via the donor base station, where the positioning information enables positioning of the UE. The location server determines a location of the target UE based at least partially on the positioning information received from the MBSR.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) accesses a public land mobile network (PLMN) and obtains an address of a server and authorization data. The UE sends the server a request for coverage data based on the address and including the authorization data. The authorization data may include a temporary identifier for the UE that may be ciphered and may enable verification of the authorization data. The request for coverage data may indicate signal levels needed by the UE to access the NTN and TN RATs and the locations and the future times.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for reducing end-to-end latency for location determination of a user equipment (UE). Location requests from an external client for a UE may be supported using control plane signaling. Location reports to the external client may be supported with user plane signaling to minimize delay. An event report with location information may be sent using user plane signaling to the external client (or Application Function) directly or via a Location Management Function (LMF) or Gateway Mobile Location Center (GMLC) or via both the LMF and GMLC. If the LMF or GMLC receive an event report from the UE, the LMF or GMLC may send the event report to the external client with user plane signaling. A periodic or triggered cumulative event report may be sent to the LMF, GMLC or external client using control plane signaling to confirm the periodic or triggered location request remains operational.

Abstract: Latency in location of a user equipment (UE) is reduced by requesting and scheduling the location of the UE in advance of the time of when it is needed. A positioning request from an external client or the UE may indicate the time that the location is to be determined or measured. A location management function (LMF) may manage and coordinate location measurements for the UE prior to the location determination time. The LMF may schedule downlink and/or uplink measurements to be performed at the desired time. Either the LMF or a location server associated with a serving base station for the UE may be assigned to receive positioning measurements and obtain the location of the UE. The location server or LMF may send the location to the UE or the external client. User plane transport may be used to further reduce latency.
