Abstract:
Polypeptide analogs of human the human lung surfactant protein, SP-C, are provided. The polypeptides have the following structure: ##STR1## wherein A is H or Phe, B is Phe or Trp, and C is Ile, Leu, or Ser. They exhibit surfactant activity and are useful in the treatment of respiratory distress syndromes in premature infants and adults.
Abstract:
Substituted phthalimidocinnamic acid derivatives I ##STR1## wherein the variables are as defined in the description are useful as herbicides and for the desication and/or defoliation of plants.
Abstract:
Reuseable polyvinyl chloride is recovered from solvent-loaded waste polyvinyl chloride paste by adding one twentieth of the paste weight of an acyl polyethylene glycol ester, then adding about twice the paste weight of water, while stirring, driving off the solvent by steam distillation, separating the solvent from the resulting two-phase distillate, and filtering off and drying the polyvinyl chloride granules floating in water left behind in the distillation residue.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for adjusting a height control system of a vehicle, which has a control apparatus capable of carrying out diagnostic functions, and takes place by means of a diagnostic apparatus. In a diagnostic mode, the diagnostic apparatus selects a "height adjusting" function in which the height of the vehicle is adjusted by means of manual measurement and incremental control of an adjusting device for increasing or decreasing the height. When the height is correct, the actual height value is inputted as the future desired height value, and the diagnostic analysis is stopped.
Abstract:
A diagnostic system including a display system in a combination instrument of the motor vehicle and a testing unit connected by a stimulating line (L) and a communication line (K) serial bus system to control systems for selectively reading defect reports from the defined storage areas of the control systems and displaying them on the display system. A diagnostic system is started by plugging a diagnostic plug or an external testing unit into a plug device connected with the testing unit or the bus system.
Abstract:
With the extraction method, a material exchange column with an ordered packing 2a or 2b on the basis of a plurality of layers 3 stacked parallel to the column axis and making point contact with one another is used. The packing 2a, 2b is perfused by a continuous and a dispersed phase in a counter current. The packing has a very large specific surface area of at least 300 m.sup.2 /m.sup.3 of packing volume. At the periphery of the packing 2a, 2b, the two phase streams are re-circulated into the packing at regular intervals through a rim seal composed of an elastic material not wettable by the dispersed phase. The rim seal is placed round the packing in the form of an elastic tube or pipe and seals the intermediate space between the internal column wall and the packing. A further improvement in the separating capacity can be achieved if pulsating operation is adopted. The method is characterized, in particular, in that an approximately constant high separating capacity is achieved with a high throughput per unit area over a relatively large loading tolerance of the column.
Abstract:
A cable guide for automobile sliding roofs having two lateral guide components (9), which together displaceably guide the guide shoes (7,8) of a sliding panel, and one forward guide component (10), adjoining the two lateral guide components. To achieve a simplified construction which can be manufactured and installed at low cost while simultaneously avoiding butt joints in the region of the cable guide channels which are (19,10) continuous through all three guide components, all three guide components (9,10) have an identical cross-sectional shape and are formed from a single-piece guide frame (11).
