Abstract: A method for transmitting broadcast signals by an apparatus for transmitting broadcast signals, the method includes encoding data which is carried by a Data Pipe, DP; bit interleaving the encoded data; Multiple Input Multiple Output, MIMO, processing the bit interleaved data; time interleaving the MIMO processed data; encoding signaling data; building at least one signal frame including signaling symbols having the encoded signaling data and data symbols having the time interleaved data; modulating data of the at least one signal frame by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) scheme; performing Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction for the modulated data using a tone reservation algorithm based on a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) size. In addition, sets of reserved carriers for the PAPR reduction are used in the signaling symbols and the data symbols; and transmitting broadcast signals including the PAPR reduction performed data, further a set of reserved carriers for the signaling symbols is different from a set of reserved carriers for the data symbols.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of transmitting broadcast signals. The method includes, formatting input streams into Data Pipe, DP, data; Low-Density Parity-Check, LDPC, encoding the DP data according to a code rate; bit interleaving the LDPC encoded DP data; mapping the bit interleaved DP data onto constellations according to one of QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), NUQ (Non-Uniform QAM) or NUC (Non-Uniform Constellation); Multi-Input Multi-Output, MIMO, encoding the mapped DP data by using a MIMO encoding matrix having a MIMO encoding parameter; building at least one signal frame by mapping the MIMO encoded DP data; and modulating data in the built signal frame by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, OFDM, method and transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data.

The OFDM generation module includes a pilot signal insertion module configured to insert a pilot signal including Continual Pilots (CP) and Scattered Pilots (SP) into the transmission broadcast signal, and the CPs are inserted into every symbol of the signal frame, and location and number of the CPs are determined based on a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) size.
