Abstract: Provided herein are method and apparatus for beam recovery. It provides an apparatus for a UE (101) including a radio frequency (RF) interface; and processing circuitry configured to: determine beam quality for one or more BPLs between the UE (101) and an access node (111,112); and in response to the beam quality for all of the BPLs being below a first predetermined threshold, encode Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) data to include a beam recovery request that identifies a candidate beam of the access node (111,112); determine a transmit power for the beam recovery request; and send the PRACH data to the RF interface for transmission to the access node (111,112) with the transmit power. At least some embodiments allow for determining a transmission power to transmit a PRACH, to ensure reception of the PRACH, and allow for determining whether to use a PRACH or a PUCHH.

Abstract: User equipment (UE) can include processing circuitry configured to decode radio resource control (RRC) signaling from a base station, the RRC signaling indicating a transmission coding scheme for a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission. PUSCH-to-phase tracking reference signal (PT-RS) energy per resource element (EPRE) ratio is determined using the RRC signaling. A PT-RS power boosting factor is determined based on the transmission coding scheme and the PUSCH-to-PT-RS EPRE ratio. The PT-RS is encoded for transmission using a plurality of PT-RS symbols, the transmission using increased transmission power corresponding to the PT-RS power boosting factor. The RRC signaling further includes a flag enabling the PT-RS transmission. The PUSCH-to-PT-RS EPRE ratio is 00 or 01, and the transmission coding scheme is a codebook-based uplink transmission or non-codebook-based uplink transmission.

Abstract: Technology for a next generation node B (gNB), operable to use phase tracking reference signals (PT-RS) is disclosed. The gNB can identify a modulation and coding 5 scheme (MCS) for the UE for a bandwidth part (BWP) with a subcarrier spacing (SCS). The gNB can select a time density of the PT-RS based on the MCS. The gNB can select a frequency density of the PT-RS based on an allocated bandwidth in the BWP. The gNB can encode the time density and the frequency density, for the PT-RS for transmission to the UE in higher layer signaling.

In an embodiment, a UE, including circuitry operable to: report a UE capability of the UE to a base station, wherein the UE capability comprises a number of phase tracking reference signal (PT-RS) antenna ports (NPT-RS) supported by the UE; decode control signaling received from the base station, wherein the control signaling comprises at least one parameter to indicate a precoder selected from a codebook based on at least the NPT-RS; and perform physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission according to the indicated precoder; wherein the codebook is predefined or configured based on different numbers of PT-RS antenna ports and different waveforms, in the UE and the base station.

Abstract: Network devices and systems in 5G and new radio (NR) infrastructures can utilize beam management operations to ensure communications for beam management procedure triggering including beam reporting, even during fall-back mode when the current receive (Rx) beam for downlink (DL) and transmit (Tx) beam for uplink (UL) fail. Additionally, reduction in overhead can be achieved with a reference beam pair link based beam reporting in a fall-back mode or not. Abstract: Technology for a user equipment (UE) operable for beam management is disclosed. The UE can be configured to decode, at the UE, a transmission configuration indicator (TCI), wherein the TCI is configured for a control channel and a data channel for all bandwidth parts (BWPs) of the UE or all component carriers (CCs) of the UE. The UE can be configured to decode, at the UE, a synchronization signal block (SSB) or a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) for beam management with a repetition parameter set to “ON” transmitted in one BWP or one CC in a first set of symbols. The UE can be configured to identify, at the UE, a scheduling restriction for the first set of symbols for the control channel and the data channel, wherein the scheduling restriction indicates that downlink transmission in the first set of symbols is not expected.

Abstract: Provided herein are method and apparatus for beam recovery. An embodiment provides an apparatus for a user equipment (UE) including a radio frequency (RF) interface; and processing circuitry configured to: determine, in response to a beam failure, a channel for transmission of a beam failure recovery request as one of: a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH), a non-contention based Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH), and a contention based Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH); and encode the beam failure recovery request for transmission to an access node via the determined channel using the RF interface. At least some embodiments allow for transmission of a beam failure recovery request for beam recovery, allow for beam failure detection or new Tx beam identification, and allow for determining whether to configure a scheduling delay between a PDCCH and a PDSCH.

Abstract: Technology for a user equipment (UE) configured to perform beam failure recovery. The UE can encode a beam failure recovery (BFR) request for transmission on a physical random-access channel (PRACH) or a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) to a next generation node B (gNB). The UE can monitor a dedicated physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) control resource set (CORESET) for a response from the gNB to the beam failure recovery request. The UE can select a default physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) beam, wherein it is assumed, at the UE that a same quasi co-location (QCL) assumption for a PDSCH as a QCL assumption for the dedicated PDCCH CORESET; or a PDSCH demodulation reference signal (DMRS) is QCLed with a downlink (DL) reference signal (RS) of an identified candidate beam by the UE. The UE can decode a beam failure recovery request response from the gNB.
