    Abstract: Described herein is a cost-effective and time-efficient method for producing photochromic contact lenses, in particular, preferably photochromic silicone hydrogel contact lenses, from a polymerizable composition comprising an unique selection and combination of main polymerizable components, a photochromic compound and a visible-light photoinitiator, based on the Lightstream Technology™. This invention also provides photochromic contact lenses or more preferably photochromic silicone hydrogel contact lenses made according to a method of the invention. A photochromic contact lens of the invention is capable of undergoing a reversible color change upon exposure to UV-irradiation or high-energy-violet light (HEVL) (with wavelengths from 380 nm to 440 nm).

    Abstract: Described herein is a UV/HEVL-filtering SiHy contact lens that not only has a relatively high UV/HEVL filtering capability but also has an aesthetic appealing color. The bulk silicone hydrogel of the UV/HEVL-filtering SiHy contact lens comprises repeating units of (1) at least one hydrophilic vinylic monomer, (2) at least one siloxane-containing vinylic monomer and/or at least one polysiloxane vinylic crosslinker, (3) at least one UV-absorbing vinylic monomer having an absorption peak at a wavelength of from 280 nm and 380 nm, (4) a first HEVL-absorbing benzotriazole-containing vinylic monomer having an absorption peak at a wavelength of from 410 nm and 420 nm, (5) a second HEVL-absorbing benzotriazole-containing vinylic monomer having an absorption peak at a wavelength of from 415 nm and 425 nm, and (6) from about 90 ppm to about 300 ppm of repeating units of at least one polymerizable blue dye.

    Abstract: The invention provides a class of high RI polysiloxane vinylic crosslinkers. Each of the polysiloxane vinylic crosslinkers of the invention comprise (1) a polysiloxane segment comprising dimethylsiloxane units and aryl-containing siloxane units each having one methyl substituent and one organic substituent having up to 45 carbon atoms and at least one aryl moiety which is linked to Si atom through a linker having at least 2 (preferably 3) carbon atoms; (2) ethylenically-unsaturated groups. The invention also provides an insert or silicone hydrogel contact lens which comprises a crosslinked polymeric material comprising repeating units of at least one of such a class of high RI polysiloxane vinylic crosslinkers.
