    摘要: An electrophotographic copier includes a transfer/charge section, a developer/cleaner section, and a photoreceptor having a surface with first and second image areas. Copies are produced by moving the photoreceptor a half revolution so that the first image area passes through the transfer/charge section in which a uniform charge is applied to the first image area. The charged first image area is exposed to a light image producing an electrostatic image on a surface of the photoreceptor. Toner is applied to the exposed first image area as it passes through the developer/cleaner section. The toned image is transferred to paper by moving the first image area through the transfer/charge section, after which the toner is fused onto the paper. When an another copy is to be made, the second image area passes through the transfer/charge section to apply a uniform charge to that image area while the developer/cleaner section removes residual toner from the first image area. Then the second image area is used to produce the next copy. Otherwise the transfer/charge section is not activated and only the residual toner is removed from the first image area before the copying process ends.

    摘要: Phase array apparatus for use with a lens system to provide a substantially smooth, uniform image of a laser array comprised of a multiplicity of lasers wherein the phase of the radiation emitted by the lasers alternates by an amount which is substantially equal to 180.degree.. The phase array includes: (1) phase means, disposed substantially at a far-field image of the laser array formed by the lens system, which far-field image comprises two prominent lobes, for changing the phase of the radiation in the two prominent lobes by 90.degree. with respect to the phase of the remaining radiation in the far-field image in order to convert the near-field image of the laser array into a finite-length sine pattern and (2) means, such as a wedge prism or a split lens, disposed preferably near a far-field image but not at a near-field image, for angularly shifting one half of the phase shifted far-field image with respect to the other to form a pair of near-field images which are spatially shifted with respect to each other by one-half cycle of the sine wave, whereby a substantially smooth, uniform image of the laser array is formed.

    摘要: An electrographic multi-color copier capable of color correcting electrographic images formed on discrete dielectric sheets, and including improved apparatus for transporting and accurately registering selected ones of such sheets relative to others during color correction. Selected dielectric sheets are respectively transported at a predetermined linear speed along first and second travel paths associated with the color correction apparatus. A first registration mechanism is selectively movable to a position intercepting the first travel path upstream of such color correction apparatus for registering the sheet relative to such apparatus, and a position remote from such path. A second registration mechanism is selectively movable to a position intercepting the second travel path upstream of such color correction apparatus for registering such other sheet relative to such apparatus, and a position remote from such path. The first and second registration mechanisms are simultaneously moved from their path intercepting positions to their remote positions after respective registration of the transported sheets. Such sheets are then respectively transported to the color correction apparatus at the same linear speed and are thus in accurate registration relative to one another during color correction.

    摘要: An electrostatic method of making transparencies and apparatus for practicing said method. An endless electrophotographic belt is charged, imaged and toned with a liquid toner suspension. The belt with the toned image is brought into close proximity to a precisely dimensioned gap defined by a heated roller over which is passed a strip of transfer material comprising a transparent substrate carrying a thin ohmic layer bonded thereto and a thin overcoat of resinous material on the ohmic layer and bonded thereto. An electrical bias is applied across the gap between the belt and the overcoated ohmic layer. The toner particles migrate electrophoretically toward the overcoated substrate. Heat is applied sufficient to melt the overcoating just prior or during the application of the electrical bias so that transfer occurs due to electrophoretic migration through the melt, thus embedding the transferred toner particles of the toner image within the resin. The transfer material is quickly cooled. The resulting transparency comprises the coated transparent member having the tone image embedded in the resin coating below the surface thereof.

    摘要: An attachment for a graphic art camera taking the place of the ordinary silver halide film cartridge for use in making a lithographic printing plate. The attachment includes an endless web mounted on rollers. At least a portion of the web is made of flexible electrophotographic film. The electrophotographic film is rotated past a charging station where the film is charged, an exposure station where a latent image is formed, a toning station where the latent image is toned with an ink-receptive toner, and a transfer station. At the transfer station the toned image is transferred from the film portion to a blank lithographic printing plate. The resulting plate is suitable for use in an offset printing press.
