摘要: A method for generating self-propped hydraulic fractures. In one embodiment, the method comprises injecting three fluid stages sequentially, each with successively higher viscosity, comprising a pad, a sealing slurry, and a displacement fluid which may be referred to as a sweep. Compositions of each of the three fluid stages are provided, each of which may be selected based upon characteristics of the formation being treated or upon one or more characteristics of the desired fracture.

摘要: A method of making a hydraulic fracturing slurry can include contacting an aqueous solution comprising calcium ions with a carbon dioxide source producing a carbonated aqueous solution. Substrate particles can be submerged in the carbonated aqueous solution to produce a calcium carbonate coated proppant wherein the carbon dioxide is sequestered in the calcium carbonate. The calcium coated proppant can be combined with hydraulic fracturing fluid to produce a hydraulic fracturing slurry. Alternatively, the calcium carbonate coated proppant can be combined with silica sand to produce a proppant composition used in a hydraulic fracturing slurry.

摘要: Proppant particulates like sand are commonly used in hydraulic fracturing operations to maintain one or more fractures in an opened state following the release of hydraulic pressure. Fracturing fluids and methods of hydraulic fracturing may also use proppant particulates composed of high-flow polyolefin coated mineral particles (referred to as high-flow polyolefin coated mineral proppant particulates). In some instances, the high-flow polyolefin-coated mineral proppant particulates have a particle density of equal to or less than about 1.35 grams per cubic centimeter, and further may be prepared using a one-pot hot melt process.

摘要: A method for improving the performance of fracturing processes in oil production fields may rely on polymer coated particles carried in the fracturing fluid. The particles may include heavy substrates, such as sand, ceramic sand, or the like coated with polymers selected to absorb water, increasing the area and volume to travel more readily with the flow of fluid without settling out, or allowing the substrate to settle out. Ultimately, the substrate may become lodged in the fissures formed by the pressure or hydraulic fracturing, resulting in propping open of the fissures for improved productivity.
