In a multi-link rear suspension (A) in which a wheel support (11) is connected to a vehicle body through five links (6-10) and vehicle body side ends of the links are provided with rubber bushes (26), respectively, the lower end of a damping device (14) formed by coaxially arranging a coil spring (12) and a damper (13) is pivoted to a portion of the wheel support (11) located toward the inside of the vehicle body so that the vertical reaction force of the damping device (14) produces a moment Mn toward negative camber on a rear wheel (2). The moment Mn is set to be always larger than a moment Mp toward positive camber produced by a side force on the outside rear wheel (2) during vehicle cornering until limit maneuvering conditions of the outside rear wheel due to the side force are reached. The damping device (14) is disposed with respect to a suppositive king pin axle K so that the vertical reaction force thereof produces a moment toward toe-in on the rear wheel (2). In this manner, the multi-link suspension provides a sharp driving feeling applicable even for a sports car while maintaining a good ride through the involvement of the rubber bushes (26).

A steering gear box mounting structure has a flexible support device for mounting a steering gear box to a vehicle body member and a flexible support device mounting portion for mounting the flexible support device to the steering gear box. The flexible support device is composed of an outer sleeve, an inner sleeve and an elastic body. The outer sleeve is conically shaped in its both axial end portions and is cylindrically shaped in its center portion. The inner sleeve is partially conically shaped in its axial end portions and is cylindrically shaped in its center portion. The elastic body is interposed between the outer and inner sleeves with a hollow space left therebetween. In the flexible support device, the outer sleeve is provided with an inclined surface inclined with respect to a direction perpendicular to the axis of the outer sleeve. Hence, the outer sleeve is vertically displaced relative to the inner sleeve in accordance with loads applied to the vehicle in left-to-right directions, thus making it possible to obtain a variable toe curve. The hollow space ensures a certain linear range.

A front suspension and steering mount cradle is disclosed for front-wheel-drive and all-wheel drive motor vehicles which provides improved component packaging, noise isolation, and heat shielding. The cradle includes laterally spaced apart supporting end arches integrally joined by a transversely extending inverted U-section saddle, wherein each arch is defined by an upper section terminating in downwardly diverging front and rear legs. Each front leg ends in a pivot pin fitting for connection to a suspension arm front pivot bushing while each rear leg terminates in a footpad housing connection for a rear bushing fitted on a rearward extending stem of each arm. Each cradle forward leg provides a pedestal bracket for supporting a frame front isolator assembly while each rear footpad supports a frame rear isolator assembly. A pair of upstanding engine mounting flanges on the saddle bight wall insure exact powertrain orientation. Inner surfaces of the cradle walls are formed with fastener bosses for readily mounting steering gear and anti-sway bar assemblies in a manner whereby the cradle shields the assemblies from engine catalytic converter heat, impingement from stones, and the like.
