Abstract: Methods for processing deposited metal nanowire inks with metal ions are used to form fused metal nanostructured networks. The metal nanowire inks include a hydrophilic polymer binder, such as a cellulose based binder. The metal nanowire inks can be deposited onto a substrate surface and dried to drive the fusing process. Transparent conductive films can be formed with desirable properties.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides processes and systems for generating a coated article having a virtual embossing effect. A process comprises applying a wet layer of a coating composition on a substrate, the composition comprising a curable resin and a plurality of flake-form pigments; forming a pattern of the pigments in the wet layer; and curing the wet layer thereby forming a cured layer, wherein the formed pattern of the pigments is capable of remaining substantially unchanged after curing and results in a virtually embossed effect of the cured layer. A coating system comprises a substrate; a coating composition comprising a curable resin and a plurality of flake-forming pigments; means for applying a wet layer of the composition onto the substrate; means for forming a pattern of the pigments in the wet layer; and means for curing the wet layer to form a substantially cured layer. The cured article derived from the processes and systems preferably may have a substantially even surface.

Abstract: A method for forming a multilayer coating film, comprising sequentially applying a first colored paint (X), a second colored paint (Y), and a clear paint (Z) to a substrate, and heating the three layers of the obtained multilayer coating film separately or simultaneously to cure these layers. The first colored coating film has a lightness L* within the range of 30 to 60, the second colored coating film has a light transmittance at a wavelength of 400 nm or more and 700 nm or less within the range of 15% or more and less than 30%, and |h(X)−h(S)|, which is a difference between a hue angle h in the L*C*h color space diagram of the first colored coating film (h(X)) and a hue angle h in the L*C*h color space diagram of the multilayer coating film (h(S)), is within the range of 0 to 30.

Abstract: A method of applying a coating composition to a substrate utilizing a high transfer efficiency applicator include the steps of providing the high transfer efficiency applicator comprising an array of nozzles wherein each nozzle defines a nozzle orifice having a diameter of from 0.00002 m to 0.0004, providing the coating composition, and applying the coating composition to the substrate through the nozzle orifice without atomization such that at least 99.9% of the applied coating composition contacts the substrate to form a coating layer having a wet thickness of at least 5 microns, wherein the coating composition includes a carrier, a binder, and a radar reflective pigment or a LiDAR reflective pigment. The coating composition has an Ohnesorge number (Oh) of from about 0.01 to about 12.6, a Reynolds number (Re) of from about 0.02 to about 6,200, and a Deborah number (De) of from greater than 0 to about 1730.

Abstract: A method of coating a substrate includes the steps of: (i) providing a suspension of dye and a binder in a solvent, wherein the ratio of dye to binder is greater than 40 wt % and the dye is uniformly dispersed in the solvent; (ii) spray-coating the suspension onto the substrate with the majority of the solvent evaporating during the spray coating step to result in a coating of dye and binder on the substrate having a density of up to 0.75 gcm-3; and (iii) continuing step (ii) until the coating thickness is at least 30 micrometres; wherein the dye does not include any carbon nanotubes.

Abstract: An aircraft skin coating assembly for an aircraft. The coating assembly includes a primer layer deposited on the aircraft skin, an optical stop-etch layer deposited on the primer layer that is reflective at a predetermined wavelength, a coating stack-up deposited on the optical etch-stop layer that provides performance features for the aircraft, and a sealant layer deposited on the stack-up. When a laser coating removal process employing a laser beam is used to remove the coating stack-up for replacement, the stop-etch layer reflects the laser beam to prevent it from penetrating and possibly damaging the aircraft skin.
