摘要: Foam-based pneumatic actuators can be formed in a state of mechanical compression prior to actuation. An actuator includes an elastomeric foam; a coating disposed on the elastomeric foam; and an elastomer seal disposed on the coating. The coating constrains the elastomeric foam and can be configured to break or fracture when the elastomeric foam inflates. The elastomer seal can be configured to be impermeable to the actuating fluid. Such a foam actuator can be used in a cardiac compression device. These foam actuators possess increased actuation deformation and an actuation exerted force for a given inflation pressure. A large deformation can be provided from materials having low ultimate strains.

摘要: A first drive unit, in a state where a top end of a tubular joint is interposed into a chest of a target person and is located at a lower heart part, pushes a diaphragm out from the top end of the tubular joint while pressing a gas into the diaphragm, and simultaneously causes the diaphragm to start flexing to cover and wrap the lower heart part, and then stops pressing the gas into the diaphragm at a time point where compression balloons are positioned at atriums and ventricles of a heart, respectively; and second drive units support a pumping function of the heart by alternately repeating an ejecting operation to fill each of the compression balloons with a fluid and cause each compression balloon to expand and an absorbing operation to cause each compression balloon to discharge the fluid and contract.

摘要: The embodiments relate to cardiac assist devices that comprise a jacket that wraps the exterior of the heart, where the jacket comprises a left chamber and a right chamber overlaying the left and right ventricles of the heart, respectively, where the chambers are expanded pneumatically to exert pressure on the heart and thereby mechanically assist its pumping. The timing of expansion of the left and right bladders is controlled by an electrical controller to match the desired or natural timing of contraction of the left and right ventricles, where both the left and right chambers may not expand simultaneously but are timed to optimize assistance of the heart. The embodiments provide jackets that apply pneumatic pressure to the right and left ventricles separately in timing to provide mechanical cardiac resynchronization therapy, as distinct from the conventional electrical stimulation cardiac resynchronization therapy.

摘要: A cardiac device for implantation proximate an exterior of a heart, the cardiac device including an inflatable bladder including an inner wall and an outer wall, wherein the inner wall itself is more expandable than the outer wall itself such that the inflatable bladder itself is configured to deform substantially inwardly to exert localized pressure against a region of the heart when the inflatable bladder is positioned adjacent the region of the heart and inflated.

摘要: A system and method for assisting a heart in pumping blood, wherein the heart has external force requirements that need to be externally applied to the heart using a cardiac assist device that is powered by a drive fluid. The cardiac assist device is powered by a drive fluid having a pressure/flow profile that is customized to the needs of the heart. The pressure/flow profile is generated by a displacement pump. If the pressure/flow profile requires pressures that cannot be made by the displacement pump, then the pressure/flow profile can be altered by venting pressure and/or adding pressurized fluid into the system. In this manner, a precise pressure/flow profile can be produced that meets the exact needs of a heart being acted upon by a cardiac assist device.

摘要: Heart failure (HF) is a global pandemic affecting at least 26 million people worldwide. Thus, methods and devices that reduce the clinical and economic burden of HF are critical. The present invention features an adjustable cardiac sleeve comprising a basal ring structure and an apical hub couple together, wherein the basal ring structure comprises a plurality of interconnected loops made from a distensible wire.

摘要: The present invention relates to surgical or laparoscopic method of creating and maintaining an opening in the thoracic diaphragm of a patient. In said method, an incision in the thoracic diaphragm is created, thereby creating an opening in the thoracic diaphragm. Further a diaphragm passing part is placed in said opening created in the thoracic diaphragm, passing from the abdomen, through the thoracic diaphragm at the pericardial contacting section, into the pericardium; When placing the diaphragm passing part a force transferring part of the diaphragm passing part is placed in contact with the thoracic diaphragm, the force transferring part being adapted to, by motion of the force transferring part, transfer force between the abdominal side of the thoracic diaphragm and the thoracic side of the thoracic diaphragm or the pericardium while sliding against the thoracic diaphragm.

摘要: A control system for a cardiac support device and the method of supporting the functionality and synchronized contraction of a heart. An optimal strain profile is calculated for a healthy heart. The cardiac support device is attached to the heart and a true ventricular strain profile is measured. The cardiac support device applies external forces to the heart, therein altering said ventricular strain profile of said heart to be closer to the optimal strain profile. The cardiac support device is dynamically controlled to synchronize with the beating rhythm of the heart. The external forces have an applied strain profile. The applied strain profile has a peak strain, a time to peak strain, and a cycle time. These variables can be adjusted either individually or in combinations to fine tune the cardiac support device and cause the altered strain profile of the heart to be closer to the optimal strain profile.
