Abstract: In some embodiments provided herein are methods of administering an adductor canal block in a patient, wherein the methods include: (a) selecting an entry point of an injection needle in a leg of the patient; (b) inserting the injection needle into the leg of the patient at the entry point; (c) identifying a first nerve in the leg of the patient; (d) administering to the first nerve saline and a pharmaceutical composition; (e) identifying a second nerve in the leg of the patient; (f) administering to the second nerve saline and the pharmaceutical composition; wherein the first nerve and second nerve are selected from the group consisting of the nerve to vastus medialis (NVM) and the saphenous nerve, and wherein the first nerve is not the second nerve, and wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises multivesicular liposomes.

Abstract: A system (100) includes a first assembly (110A) and a second assembly (110B). The first assembly (110A) includes a body (120) forming a first interior volume, a plunger (130) comprising a first distal end disposed within the first interior volume, a wire comprising a first distal end secured to the first distal end of the plunger (130), and a plunger clip (140) configured to interface with the plunger (130) and the body (120) to prevent actuation of the plunger (130). The second assembly (110B) includes a cowl (150) forming a second interior volume, a needle comprising a hub and a shaft, and a cowl cap disposed partially within the hub to secure the implant in the shaft. A first distal end of the shaft is connected to the hub. The hub is disposed within the second interior volume. The shaft is configured to receive an implant.

Abstract: The present technology includes, for example, an insertion assembly comprising a frame including a tubular sidewall defining an internal cavity and a slot extending longitudinally along a portion of the sidewall. The insertion assembly further comprises a medical device configured to be inserted into the user's skin and a carrier carrying the medical device and at least partially disposed within the internal cavity of the frame. The carrier can be axially movable within the frame from a first, cocked position to a second extended position proximate. The carrier can include a protrusion disposed within the slot of the frame and configured to slide within the slot when the carrier moves axially within the frame. A ratio of a height of the protrusion to a width of the protrusion is greater than 1.

Abstract: A microneedle or microneedle device includes a microneedle body extending from a base to a penetrating tip formed from a silk fibroin based material, which is easy to fabricate and highly biocompatible. The microneedle device can include one or more microneedles mounted to a substrate. The silk fibroin can include active agents to be transported into or across biological barriers such as skin, tissue and cell membranes. The silk fibroin microneedles can be fully or partially biodegradable and/or bioerodible. The silk fibroin is highly stable, affords room temperature storage and is implantable. The silk fibroin structure can be modulated to control the rate of active agent delivery.

Abstract: Inserter devices provide manual insertion of an insertion needle and cannula and subsequent automatic retraction of the insertion needle. The inserter devices include insertion guards that inhibit insertion of the insertion needle and cannula unless a compressive force applied to the device exceeds a threshold. As the user applies more compressive force, the device remains unactuated until the threshold-force is exceeded, whereupon the movement is sudden and rapid. As a result, it feels to the user that the insertion is being driven by an automatic insertion mechanism.

Abstract: A barrier system is provided for use in reducing infections associated with post-operative surgical incision and/or a percutaneous medical device, such as a catheter, that is disposed within the surgical incision. Such a barrier system may include: a barrier device having a skin-contacting surface and a catheter-receiving surface; and an adhesive composition configured for adhering to skin, the barrier device, and/or the catheter so as to form a barrier at or adjacent to an incision in the skin where the catheter is percutaneously inserted through the skin. A tensioning anchor and associated system of two or more tensioning anchors is provided for post-operative wound closure. A method for applying and removing the barrier device and tensioning anchors is also provided.
