摘要: A method of simplifying the arithmetic operation in a global motion compensation process approximates the motion vector field of the whole image without using many parameters. Motion vectors in the global motion compensation are found by the interpolation and/or extrapolation of the motion vectors of a plurality of representative points 602, 603 and 604 having particular features in the spatial distance thereof. Since the shift operation can be substituted for the division for synthesizing a predicted image of global motion compensation, the processing using a computer or a dedicated hardware is simplified.

摘要: A method and apparatus that reduce the complexity of motion estimation while providing better quality for a particular level of reduced resolution than previously available are described. The method and apparatus involve motion estimation quantization dithering to avoid quantization error effects when reducing the resolution, for example, from eight-bit pixel intensity values to two-bit pixel intensity values. Consequently, an embodiment of the invention provides efficient motion estimation using statistically accurate reduced resolution representations.

摘要: Element processors (PE00 to PE33) included in a processor array (7) store pixel values of a search window, shifting them forward. Further, only hatched element processors (PE00, PE02, PE11, PE13, PE20, PE22, PE31, PE33) store pixel values of a template block, and compare them with the pixel values in the search to evaluate a similarity of pixel values. In other words, the pixel values of the template block are skipped and the pixel values which are left after skipping are compared. Therefore, it is possible to cut a hardware volume.

An end code that indicates an ending of the coded truncated quantization matrix, in a bitstream is detected. The coded truncated quantization matrix is extracted until the end code is encountered. The extracted—coded truncated quantization matrix is decoded into a one dimensional array that comprises elements of a truncated quantization matrix. The one dimensional array is converted into a two dimensional array that comprises elements of the truncated quantization matrix in a zigzag scanning order. The quantization matrix is generated using the two dimensional array.

摘要: A method for coding a motion vector in a moving picture reduces overall bit rates in a process of moving picture coding includes searching a motion vector prediction candidate for a first block among a plurality of blocks in a macroblock, searching a plurality of motion vector prediction candidates for each of additional blocks in the plurality of blocks in succession upon completion of the search for the plurality of motion vector prediction candidates for the first block. A motion vector median prediction value for the first block is compared to a motion vector bound. If the motion vector median prediction value is determined to lie within a motion vector bound, a predicted value for coding the first block is determined to be the motion vector median prediction value. If it is determined that the motion vector median prediction value does not lie within the motion vector bound, a vector value that lies within the bound of a motion vector prediction candidate among the plurality of motion vector prediction candidate or the motion vector median prediction value is determined to be the predicted value for coding the first block. The steps of comparing a motion vector median prediction value to the motion vector bound and determining a predicted value is repeated for each of the additional blocks in the plurality of blocks in the macroblock.

摘要: Video signal compression apparatus generates residues representing pixel value differences between predicted and real pixel values of a current frame of a video signal. Noise reduction circuitry, in the form of nonlinear processing functions, attenuates lower amplitude residues greater than higher amplitude residues and is responsive to a noise estimate. The processed residues are transformed to provide a compressed video data output. The nonlinear processing functions attenuate noise and reduce image distortion.

摘要: A motion vector is detected between a base block of a present frame and an inspection block of a reference frame, which is moved in a predetermined search range of the reference frame, on the basis of constant and transient components extracted from the base and inspection blocks. The constant (low frequency) component may be the mean value of the pixels of the block. The transient (high frequency) component may be the standard deviation of the pixels of the block. The base and inspection blocks may be respectively segmented into small blocks, and the constant and transient components of the small blocks obtained, compared and summed.
