An apparatus for indicating the amplitude of an alternating voltage signal including first and second cyclically operating signal integrators which periodically integrate the alternating voltage signal and a reference D.C. signal related to the nominal or desired amplitude of the alternating voltage signal. The integrators operate in synchronism with the alternating voltage signal. The two integrated signals are periodically compared for amplitude and polarity differences. There is also provided means for periodically comparing the integrated alternating voltage signal with another reference D.C. signal representing the nominal or desired frequency thereof to indicate the instantaneous frequency of the alternating voltage signal.

A signal source and harmonic signal selector for application in frequency-coherent signal generators or synthesizers and in precision radio communication systems features a novel frequency conversion process to obtain pluralities of selectable stable frequency signals from one source. A stable oscillator is employed to excite the desired plurality of signals in a harmonic comb generator. An injection oscillator, controlled by a selected unidirectional voltage level, is used as a filter to select a desired one of the array of harmonically related signals. Means are provided for purifying the spectrum of the selected output signal.

An electrical signal generator for generating signals at specific frequencies includes means for producing an adjustable frequency output, adjusting means for causing changes in the output frequency, and control means for adjustably pre-selecting the sizes of the frequency changes. In this way, the operator can be provided with a frequency changing control which, when operated, causes the output frequency to change in predetermined steps.

An all electronic tuning system is described for establishing a frequency of a local oscillator in a television receiver. When a channel selection is made, a number representing the desired channel is entered in a memory circuit. A first plurality of frequencies is generated in response to a channel selection, and a VCO employed as a local oscillator is caused to increase in frequency. When the VCO frequency differs from the first plurality of frequencies by a predetermined amount, a second plurality of frequencies is generated. Each frequency generated in said second plurality of frequencies is compared with said VCO frequency. When a predetermined difference exists between said VCO frequency and said second plurality of frequencies, a count is recorded. When the recorded count is equivalent to the number obtained in the memory circuit, the VCO tuning is inhibited and the VCO frequency is stabilized until a subsequent channel selection is made.

An improved marine radio telephone is disclosed which has a housing having an angular opening suitable for either above or below eye level installation and a chassis having printed wiring board support members including a tiltable front panel support member for adapting the front panel to correspond to the position of the housing when mounted therein and a rear support member for supporting the transmitter board and heat sink for improved heat dissipation. The front panel includes a keyboard having keys for selecting digits 0 to 9, an emergency channel, and weather channels, a display for displaying the channel selected, control knobs for volume and squelch control, and switches for power and U.S.A. or international channel selection. The printed wiring boards include a front panel board, a digital input/output and power board, a frequency synthesizer board, a receiver board and a transmitter board. The front panel board sends operating signals to and receives outputs from the other boards. The digital input/output board includes a digital detector means for producing binary coded numbers representative of the keys pressed, a load control means for alternately loading the binary coded numbers into a tens register and a units register, an illegal channel detector connected to the tens and units registers for detecting an improper channel selection, and a memory connected to the units register and producing in response to binary coded numbers for legal channels a synthesizer address code for the channel selected. The synethesizer board is connected to the digital input/output and power board to provide, in response to the synthesizer address code, a local oscillator signal for the receiver clearing receiver operation and an audio modulated signal for transmission during transmitter operation. A phase lock loss signal is produced for preventing illegal operation. The receiver board includes an improved squelch circuit which provides for fine tuning to eliminate noise without unnecessarily reducing the audio signal.

The output of a fast frequency hopping VCO is mixed with the output of a conventional slow acquisition frequency synthesizer to produce an IF which is applied to a frequency discriminator where the IF is compared with a reference IF to provide an error signal which is digitized and stored in a memory. Subsequently, the error signal is applied together with a command signal to the VCO to obtain the desired frequency output.
