    Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring a throughway using a radio frequency identification (RFID) detection system. The RFID detection system includes (i) an image sensor configured to have a field of view directed towards a lane of the throughway; (ii) an RFID transceiver arrangement configured to interrogate RFID tags disposed on vehicles within the lane of the throughway; and (iv) a controller operatively connected to the image sensor and the RFID transceiver arrangement. The controller is configured to (1) cause the image sensor to capture a frame of image data representative of the lane of the throughway; (2) analyze the frame of image data to detect a presence of a vehicle in the lane of the throughway; (3) based on the analysis, determine a position of the vehicle relative to the RFID transceiver arrangement; and (4) configure an antenna array to generate a beam directed at the position of the vehicle.

    Abstract: A system is described for tracking vehicle position using a smart phone or similar device as an active transponder that communicates with roadside equipment. The system may use existing RF transceivers on the smart-phone, such as Bluetooth® LE or WiFi to periodically transmit an identifying message. Road-based equipment detects and locates the smart phone. In a further aspect, the smart phone is alerted by roadside beacons and responds with identification information. Transaction processing may be performed either on the smart phone or by roadside or back office equipment. The system may be used for automated roadway tolling and monitoring and also for access control. A coded card may be scanned by the smart card to enter identification for access control.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a license plate scanning and payment system and method of use thereof. The system includes a server coupled to a mobile application, wherein the server is configured to store license plate information and associated payor or credit card account (i.e., payment information) in a database. The application enables a user to capture and upload license plate and credit card account information. The license plate positioned on the vehicle is scanned by a scanning endpoint and the scanned information is compared with the information stored in the database for debiting a payment from the credit card account. The system keeps records for payment summaries and can show pricing offered by various service facilities.
