Abstract: A magnetoelastic torque sensor system comprising a shaft having at least one axial section magnetized in a circumferential direction; and a magnetic sensor device comprising three or four magnetic sensors; the sensor device being arranged in the vicinity of the shaft; the sensor device comprising a first semiconductor substrate having a processing circuit, a second semiconductor substrate having a first magnetic sensor, and a third semiconductor substrate having a second magnetic sensor (S2), each magnetic sensor configured for measuring a magnetic field component; wherein the first, second and third semiconductor substrates are incorporated in a single packaged device; the system being configured for determining a torque exerted upon the shaft, based on the measured field components, or based on pairwise differences thereof. Abstract: In a torque sensor, a sleeve is an annular member that is attached to a first rotating member. An intermediate member is an annular member that is placed on an outer circumferential surface of the sleeve. A magnet is an annular member that is placed on an outer circumferential surface of the intermediate member. A yoke is attached to a second rotating member and faces the magnet in a radial direction. A rotating member connecting portion of the sleeve has a cylindrical shape and is contact with the first rotating member. An intermediate member connecting portion is at a position shifted with respect to the rotating member connecting portion in an axial direction. The intermediate member includes a thin portion and a thick portion having a thickness greater than that of the thin portion.

Abstract: A heterogeneous sensor system includes a magnetic field sensor and an inductive sensor. A checker is configured to receive the magnetic field sensor output signal and the inductive sensor output signal and determine whether an error has occurred based on a comparison of the magnetic field sensor output signal and the inductive sensor output signal. Targets include at least a portion that is conductive and may include a ferromagnetic portion for back biased magnetic sensing. Additional features include on axis and off axis positioning of the sensors with respect to the target, multi-track targets for absolute position sensing, angle sensing and torque sensing configurations.

Abstract: A magnetic torque sensing device having a torque transferring member with a magnetoelastically active region. The magnetoelastically active region has oppositely polarized magnetically conditioned regions with initial directions of magnetization that are perpendicular to the sensitive directions of magnetic field sensor pairs placed proximate to the magnetically active region. Magnetic field sensors are specially positioned in relation to the torque-transferring member to accurately measure torque while providing improved RSU performance and reducing the detrimental effects of compassing. The torque sensing devices are incorporated on vehicle drive train components, including differential components, transfer case components, transmission components, and others, including on power transmission shafts, half-shafts, and wheels, and output signals representing characteristics of the vehicle are processed in algorithms to provide useful output information for controlling actions of the vehicle.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for measuring the torque of a shaft rotating about a longitudinal axis and includes a measurement body and an evaluation unit. The measurement body includes a measuring unit, a measuring amplifier unit and a telemetry unit and can be attached to the shaft to rotate with the shaft in the attached state. The measuring unit generates a measurement signal under the effect of the torque on the shaft in the attached state. The measuring amplifier unit amplifies the measurement signal, which the telemetry unit digitizes into a digitized amplified signal that is transmitted by the telemetry unit to the evaluation unit by wireless transmission. The principal axis of inertia of the measurement body lies on the shaft's longitudinal axis in the attached state.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a magnetostrictive torque sensor shaft (100) to which a sensor portion (2) of a magnetostrictive torque sensor (1) is mounted. The method includes heat treatment step of subjecting an iron-based shaft member to a carburizing, quenching, and tempering process, and a shot peening step of performing shot peening using a boron-free zirconia shot media having a Vickers hardness at least equal to 1100 and at most equal to 1300, at least in a position on the shaft member, after the heat treatment step, to which the sensor portion is to be attached. The surface of the shaft member, after shot peening, has a total error, including hysteresis error and angle error, of not more than 3%.

Abstract: A torque sensor can measure torque introduced into an upper shaft that is rotatable around a longitudinal axis and is connectable to a lower shaft via a torsion rod. A first component is connectable to the upper shaft, and a second component is connectable to the lower shaft. The components have surfaces that protrude in a longitudinal direction and at least partially overlap. A sensor coil that can generate a high-frequency alternating magnetic field is arranged on one of the surfaces of one component, and a metallic element is arranged on one of the surfaces of the other component. A torque introduced into the upper shaft causes a change in distance between the sensor coil and the metallic element. A device can measure a frequency change of the alternating magnetic field caused by the change in distance and determine the torque introduced into the upper shaft.

Abstract: A steering element sensor assembly for sensing a steering torque and an absolute angular position having a circuit board and first and second sensor elements. The circuit board has a base surface arranged perpendicularly to a steering axis and a wing surface angled to the base. The first sensor element determines the steering torque and has a first primary sensor formed as a magnetically coded portion on the steering element and one secondary sensor for converting the changing magnetic field generated by the primary sensor into an electrical signal. The secondary sensor determines the absolute angular position and a main gear arranged on the steering element that meshes with at least two gears, one which has one more tooth than the other. Each gear has a target that faces a respective angle sensor.
