摘要: An electromagnetic unit fuel injector for use in a diesel engine includes a housing having a bushing with an externally actuated plunger reciprocable therein to define a pump chamber open at one end for the discharge of fuel to a spring biased, pressure actuated fuel injection nozzle. The pump chamber is connected to a supply/spill chamber means via flow-through solenoid with pivot armature actuated, normally open, hollow pressure sensitive valve to permit the ingress and egress of fuel. The supply/spill chamber means adjacent to the head of the valve is in flow communication with a source of fuel at a relatively low supply pressure. During a pump stroke of the plunger, the solenoid can be energized, as desired, to effect pivotal movement of the pivot armature located so as to axially push the pressure sensitive valve to a closed position relative to an associate valve seat whereby to block flow from the pump chamber to the supply/spill chamber means, thus allowing the plunger to effect pressurization of the fuel so as to effect discharge of fuel from the injection nozzle.

摘要: A compression operated fuel injector assembly (1) for an internal combustion engine. The injector assembly (1) has a body (2) with a bore (8) having a gas passage (9) at one end for communication with an engine combustion chamber. A piston (7) is slidable in the bore (8). A fuel pump (5) is mounted within the body (2) having a plunger (14) which is mounted on the piston (7) for reciprocal pumping movement within a complementary fuel pump cyclinder (15) for delivery of fuel to a nozzle assembly (6). The nozzle assembly (6) is mounted on the piston (7) and projects through the gas passage (9). The piston (7) is urged downwardly by a timing spring (16) so that a valve head (18) on the nozzle assembly (6) engages a valve seat (19) until the pressure of combustion chamber gases acting on the outer portion of the nozzle (6) is sufficient to overcome spring pressure and move the piston (7) upwardly opening the passage (9) to the piston (7) so that the gases snap the piston (7) upwardly due to the increased area exposed to the gases. Collets (20) at an outer end of the gas passageway (9) form a gas tight seal with a second valve head (21) on the nozzle assembly (6) when the piston (7) snaps inwardly to retain purging air within the bore (8) and seal the bore (8) during combustion to exclude combustion gases. When cylinder pressure drops at the end of the power stroke the spring (16) moves the piston (7) outwardly to blow down the purging air into the cylinder for improved scavenging.

摘要: An internal combustion engine having a precombustion chamber connected to the cylinder by a venturi passage is supplied fuel through an opening in the venturi passage. Fuel is supplied to the precombustion chamber in an initial increment on the compression stroke so that the air and fuel in the precombustion chamber can be ignited at the end of the compression stroke and a stream of high pressure, hot gases returning through the venturi aspirate a second increment of fuel for completing combustion of the air in the cylinder. A bypass conduit from the precombustion chamber conveys gas under pressure to the fuel near the opening in the venturi to assist in ejecting said second increment of fuel into the hot gases in the venturi. A small cylinder and piston, or a diaphragm in the bypass conduit transmit pressure to the fuel without letting hot gases contact the fuel.In a modification employing a valved opening, a fuel-air mixture is introduced into the precombustion chamber during the intake stroke of the piston. Upon combustion of this mixture in the precombustion chamber, an increment of liquid fuel is ejected at the venturi into the stream of hot, high pressure gases flowing from the precombustion chamber into the cylinder to provide fuel for the air in the cylinder.

摘要: A fluid injector including a pressure sensitive piston through a hole in which is injected a predetermined quantity of fluid into an adjacent area, when a predetermined pressure is presented onto a face of the piston. The piston includes therein a cavity to contain the fluid to be injected and a valve in the hole for constraining the fluid within the cavity until the predetermined pressure is presented. As the pressure in the adjacent area increases, the fluid supply to the cavity of the piston is restricted, and the movement of the piston after the predetermined pressure is reached forces the fluid through the valve into the adjacent area. Also presented is a pogo stick incorporating a combustion engine, the fuel to which is fed by the fluid injector of the invention.

摘要: A compression ignition engine injects fuel through injection holes of an injector at a substantially constant injection rate to atomize the fuel so that the fuel can be easily vaporized and to make the fuel penetrate an atmosphere inside a cylinder. A spatial distribution of the injected fuel in which mixing of the fuel and air is promoted as the fuel recedes from the injection hole and the fuel reaches a premixing space where the fuel is premixed with the air is provided. The engine controls oxygen concentration inside the cylinder and an ignition delay so that a ratio of a quantity of the fuel injected before a start of ignition to a total fuel injection quantity falls within a range from 25% to 50% and so that the premixed gas formed in the premixing space is combusted serially.

摘要: A hybrid propulsion system, particularly for a vehicle, having a free piston type engine-pump unit connected to a working fluid circuit for controlling pressurization of a working fluid, which fluid in turn drives a hydraulic motor interconnected to the vehicle wheels. The motor-pump unit includes a free piston assembly having a pair of fixedly connected power pistons, each of which has a pump piston fixed thereto. The fluid system includes high and low pressure accumulators in communication with pumping chambers associated with the pump pistons. The power pistons are used for driving the pump pistons to pressurize the working fluid when self-sustained operation of the engine-pump unit is desired. However, the flow of working fluid to the pumping chambers can be reversed during startup of the engine so that the high pressure fluid is used for driving the free piston assembly until same is reciprocated at a rate rapidly enough to permit self-sustained reciprocation thereof.

摘要: A small, high-speed distributor type fuel pump for use with internal combustion engines is provided. The pump includes a pair of opposed pistons driven by an eccentric on a drive shaft. Means are provided for varying both the volumetric flow as well as timing. Variable timing means are in the form of helically shaped splines on a layshaft, which layshaft is actuatable by means to adjust relative positions of gears in a gear train interconnecting the drive shaft and a distributor rotor. Volumetric flow variation is achieved by change in the axial position of the distributor rotor.
