    Abstract: A gripper mechanism for a downhole tool is disclosed that includes an eccentric linkage mechanism. In operation, an axial force generated by a power section of the gripper expands the linkage mechanism, which applies a radial force to the interior surface of a wellbore or passage. A sliding portion allows the gripper to slide along a surface of the formation in response to the radial force applied to the interior surface of the wellbore or passage.

    Abstract: A device for grinding a side surface of an inner wall of a borehole is disclosed. The device comprises a base on which a direct current motor is, one end of the direct current motor is electrically connected to a controller, and the other end of the direct current motor is in drive connection with a second right-angle drive steering gear rotating shaft of a right-angle drive steering gear by a universal drive joint. The controller is connected to an air pressure valve by a cable, and the air pressure valve is connected to an air pump through an air pipe. One end, away from the universal drive joint, of the right-angle drive steering gear is provided with a grinding cylinder. Grinding heads are respectively connected to first right-angle drive steering gear rotating shafts at both sides of the right-angle drive steering gear.

    Abstract: A downhole tool for determining laterals in a borehole wall or a borehole casing, comprising a tool housing extending along a longitudinal axis and having a circumference perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and a plurality of sonic transceivers. Each sonic transceiver transmitting sonic signals from the housing and receiving sonic signals reflected from the borehole wall or borehole casing in a predefined angular segment. The sonic transceivers are arranged along the circumference of the tool housing having a mutual distance and are capable of transmitting sonic signals radially away from the tool housing in an entire central angle of 360 degrees towards the borehole wall or borehole casing. During a pulse time, one sonic transceiver transmits a sonic signal in the predefined angular segment of that sonic transmitter, and one sonic transceiver, during a subsequent echo time, receives a reflected sonic signal from the borehole wall or borehole casing.

    Abstract: Extendable elements of downhole tools are provided having an extension direction component perpendicular to a tool axis, wherein a force is applied to the extendable element when in operation. The extendable elements comprise a first cross-section that includes the extension direction component, a first surface configured to receive a first force component of the force, the first force component substantially perpendicular to the first surface and a second surface configured to transfer at least a portion of the first force component of the force to a body of the downhole tool. The second surface and the extension direction component perpendicular to the tool axis draw a first angle that is between 0° and 90°.

    Abstract: A wellbore tractor is capable of being positioned in a wellbore that includes a cased section, a first uncased section downhole of the cased section, and a second uncased section downhole of the first uncased section. The wellbore tractor is capable of self-propelling itself through the wellbore. An anchoring system is connected to the wellbore tractor. The anchoring system includes an appendage. When the wellbore tractor is in the cased section, the anchoring system is capable of extending the appendage from the cased section through the first uncased section into the second uncased section, anchoring the appendage in the second uncased section, and guiding the wellbore tractor from the cased section past the first uncased section and into the second uncased section.
