    摘要: A multi-activation reamer optionally includes modular activation and pulse confirmation blocks for activating the reamer and confirming activation. A reamer activation signal may be communicated downhole, optionally using an activation sequence of drill string flow and rotation detectable by downhole sensors. An on-board controller receives the activation signal and opens an activation flow path in the activation block to hydraulically actuate the reamer arms. A pulse flow path is also opened in the pulse confirmation block, optionally using pressure from the activation flow path. Flow along the pulse flow path is modulated to generate a flow pattern detectable uphole of the reamer to confirm activation of the reamer.

Presented is a reamer having an interior channel which runs along an elongate axis of the entire body of the reamer, wherein there are openings along both ends of the reamer, exposing the interior channel. Additionally presented in the reamer are a plurality of paths extending parallel to the interior channel along the exterior of the body of the reamer, and running in a helical pattern along the entirety of the exterior of the body of the reamer. Disposed within the helical paths are a plurality of cutting inserts, which cutting inserts are enabled to provides a uniform cutting surface against a well bore, which preferably improves cutting action and reduces strain on the reamer.

    摘要: A downhole drilling apparatus, passing through a subterranean borehole, may mark an inner wall of the borehole with a marking element. A sensor, spaced axially from the marking element on the drilling apparatus, may subsequently sense the marking as it passes. A rate of penetration of the drilling apparatus may be calculated by dividing an axial distance, between the marking element and the sensor, by a time interval, between when the marking element marks the inner wall and when the marking is sensed by the sensor. Alternately, a second sensor, spaced axially from the first, may also sense the marking. A rate of penetration may then be calculated by dividing an axial distance, between the two sensors, by a time interval, between when the two sensors sense the marking.

    摘要: A hole opener configured for use with a directional drilling rig and the hole opener includes a shaft and slots that extends along the shaft. Blades extend radially outward from the shaft and are each received within one of the slots to couple the blades to the shaft for rotation with the shaft and to space the blades apart around the shaft. The hole opener further includes saddles. Each of the saddles includes a slot that receives one of the blades to couple the saddle to the blade and the shaft for rotation with the blade and the shaft. The saddles each include a recess. The hole opener further includes cutters and each of the cutters is received within one of the recesses of the saddles to couple the cutters to the shaft for rotation with the shaft and to space the cutters around the longitudinal axis of the shaft.

The body includes pockets formed in the body in which each of the pockets includes a forwardly-positioned shoulder pocket section, a rearwardly-positioned tapered pocket section and a base opening axially extending through a wall of the corresponding pocket that receives a fastener therethrough. The cone arms each include a cone head attached to an arm. The arm includes a forwardly-positioned shoulder arm section, a rearwardly-positioned tapered arm section, and a rearwardly-facing opening axially extending through the rearwardly-positioned tapered arm section that receives the fastener. When each of the cone arms is inserted into a corresponding one of the pockets and the corresponding fastener(s) is/are tightened, the rearwardly-positioned tapered arm section is securely drawn into the rearwardly-positioned tapered pocket section of the pocket to create a pre-loaded fit therebetween and the forwardly-positioned shoulder arm section mates with the forwardly-positioned shoulder pocket section.

    摘要: An apparatus to increase a diameter of a well bore includes a drill pipe and a first reamer and at least a second reamer. The second reamer is positioned diametrically opposed to the first reamer. A first plurality of cutting teeth are positioned about each of the first reamer and the at least a second reamer. A top of each successive tooth in a direction counter to a rotation of the apparatus in the well bore extends a radial distance from the longitudinal axis. Each tooth of the first plurality of cutting teeth is positioned at a different circumferential location about each reamer from any adjacent teeth of the first plurality of teeth. At least a second plurality of cutting teeth are positioned about each of the first reamer and the at least a second reamer, the at least a second plurality of cutting teeth being spaced longitudinally apart from the first plurality of cutting teeth.
