Abstract: A method for installation of a transition piece on a monopile foundation of an offshore wind turbine along a common axis extending in a longitudinal direction is performed from a floating installation vessel. Buffer elements are arranged around an inner circumference of the transition piece and/or the monopile structure. The transition piece is lifted and lowered onto the monopile structure by use of a crane, and landed onto the monopile structure through the use of the buffer elements. A number of hydraulic cylinder jacks for circumferential alignment of bolt holes are provided in the transition piece and monopile, and alignment tools are used for alignment of the flanges provided on each of the transition piece and the monopile. The transition piece is lifted and the buffer elements are removed after which the transition piece is lowered onto the monopile, and bolts are tensioned fix the transition piece to the monopile.

Abstract: Installation vessel for installation of a monopile to support an offshore wind turbine. The vessel has a pile holding device with a pile holder and a support assembly which is configured to move the pile holder in a horizontal plane relative to the hull. A monitoring system is configured to, in a gripping phase wherein the monopile is suspended from a crane and is to be gripped by the pile holder, monitor the suspended monopile in the horizontal plane relative to the pile holder. The system provides signals representative of the position and movement of the monopile relative to the pile holder to the motion control unit of the support assembly.

The lower pipe portion may be connected to a pull-in arrangement before deployment subsea.

Further use is made of a lift system that is configured to bring the drop weight assembly into an initial height position relative to the drive head, and a quick release system adapted to effect quick release of the lift system.

Abstract: A suction anchor and method of installing the suction anchor. The suction anchor including a suction chamber bounded by: a circumferential outer wall; an upper wall; and an internal housing wall. The internal housing defining a passage for receiving wellhead components that may be secured to the suction anchor. The suction chamber has a minor upper portion and a major lower portion. The minor upper portion having internal reinforcing members extending along the inside of the upper wall from the outer walls to the internal housing. The major portion is adapted to be embedded in a seabed and the minor portion is adapted to project from the seabed when the anchor is installed. The reinforcing members serve to reinforce the upper wall of the chamber against collapse and to rigidly support the internal housing to resist forces arising from bending moments applied to wellhead components received and secured therein.

Abstract: A gravity based foundation for an offshore installation includes a caisson of concrete and a hollow shaft. The caisson has a bottom slab, a roof and a side wall extending between the bottom slab and the roof. The roof having a passage for the shaft into the caisson. The shaft support has embedded tensioning bars vertically projecting from the upper side of the shaft support. The shaft is mounted on the shaft support by the tensioning bars. A method of manufacturing includes providing a concrete bottom slab, arranging a full-length formwork onto the bottom slab, arranging a slip formwork onto the bottom slab, providing the tensioning bars and mounting the tensioning bars in a fixed position to the full-length formwork, and concrete pouring of the sidewall and shaft support while raising the slip formwork.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus are disclosed involving scour protection of undersea monument foundations, such as monopile foundations. A preferred embodiment comprises an Advanced Ecological Scour Protection System (AESPS) that enhances offshore scour protection through an innovative combination of eco-friendly engineering units and natural materials. In a preferred embodiment, an AESPS includes two main features comprising a single-layer rock blanket deployed first at an intended site of the foundation, followed by installation of fronded eco-concrete mattress units to form a peripheral ring border around the rock blanket. The foundation then may be installed directly into and through the rock blanket, with a monument installed on the foundation, and an export cable extending from the monument, over the mattress units, and through the fronds. Such an AESPS may eliminate critical risks of secondary scour damage, cable lateral movement, and marine life deterioration.

Abstract: A portal frame platform comprises at least three elongate tubular legs extending vertically downward from a top above the waterline to the seabed without horizontal or diagonal bracing members in-between, and a horizontal deck with at least three circular sleeves concentrically coupled to the top of the legs supporting a wind turbine in an in-service configuration. The portal frame platform supporting the wind turbine has an installation configuration with two barges connected to opposite sides of the deck, and the legs extending vertically upward from a bottom above the waterline through the circular sleeves. A construction method includes twelve-steps for quayside assembling, sea-towing and self-installing the portal frame platform with the wind turbine and foundation piles wherein the portable frame platform is converted from the installation configuration to the in-service configuration by lowering the legs through the circular sleeves using wire and winch systems on the two barges.
