    摘要: A method and device for heating or hardening at least an axial segment of a rotationally-symmetric surface of a work piece includes rotating the work piece about its rotational axis and moving a peripheral portion of an inductor along a longitudinal profile of the axial segment of the rotating work piece with a constant spacing between the peripheral portion and the axial segment. At least a portion of the movement of the peripheral portion is composed of a first vector component in the direction of the rotational axis and a second component extending perpendicularly to the first vector component. The peripheral portion has a length in the rotational axis direction that is less the length of the axial segment in the rotational axis direction.

    摘要: An apparatus (20) for induction heat treating, restraint quenching, and straightening an associated carbon steel truck structural member (30), having a web (32) and at least one flange (34) substantially perpendicular thereto, comprises a heat treating apparatus (22) for induction heating and restraint quenching the associated structural member (30). The heat treating apparatus (22) is operatively connected to a cooling conveyor (50). The cooling conveyor (50) is adapted for receiving the associated structural member (30) from the heat treating apparatus (22). A testing apparatus (24) is included for hardness testing the heat treated associated structural member. The testing apparatus (24) is adapted for receiving the associated structural member (30) from the cooling conveyor (52). A conveyor (54) is adapted for receiving the associated structural member (30) from the testing apparatus (24). A roller straightener (26) is operatively connected to the conveyor (54). The roller straightener (26) is adapted for receiving the associated structural member (30) from the conveyor (54). The roller straightener (26) has at least three rolls (64b, 64c, 64d) proximately located to one another for operatively engaging the associated structural member (30) between the rolls. The roller straightener (26) further includes an apparatus (78) for adjusting the position of at least one of the rolls (64) along a first axis.

    摘要: Metal strip in coils is heat-treated by impinging jets of a temperature-controlled gaseous medium on the ends of the coils which are positioned with the coil axis horizontal. The medium is recirculated through heat exchangers. A rotating hearth furnace for such heat-treating has an annular hearth which carries coils in intermittent movement through successive stations in which the gaseous medium is directed on the coils.

    摘要: In the process of heat-treating the head of a railroad rail wherein the rail is stressed so that the head forms a convex arc of predetermined height, the arc height is decreased about 14% after about 10% of the rail head has been heated, and then the original arc height is restored when about 40% of the rail head has been heated and then again decreased when about 60% of the rail head has been heated, and then finally the original arc height is again restored while the last 10% of the rail head length is heat treated.

    摘要: A handling machine for rails, arranged in line and immediately downstream of a rolling plant, which allows both to easily handle the rail for transferring it from the roller table to the thermal treatment zone, and to ensure an optimal gripping of the rail along its longitudinal extension, thus effectively contrasting its bending and variations while allowing a longitudinal movement of the rail caused by thermal shrinkage, thus avoiding damages both to the external surface of the rail and to the handlers. A rail handling process is also described, which optimizes moving, positioning along a roller table and maintaining the rail substantially rectilinear during the thermal treatment to which it is subjected.

    摘要: A fixture for low-warp hardening of thin-walled annular sealing members of hardenable metallic materials, having a O-shaped cross section and capable of being charged in a tempering furnace or the like. The fixture consists of a plurality of stackable trays having an annular rim on top and, radially within the rim, an annular web to accommodate a sealing member. The height of the web is at least equal to that of the rim and is greater than the depth of the sealing member. The under-side of the next tray is flat in the neighborhood of the web and presses the sealing member down on the web.
