摘要: Apparatus and process for improved contaminant removal from engine lubricating oil are provided. The invention is adapted for use with an existing engine oil lubrication system and continuously processes a side stream that after processing is returned to the engine oil. During processing, the oil is first filtered and then is deposited to form a thin film upon upper internal surface regions of a heated, generally conically configured platen whose average transverse internal diameter generally decreases with increasing downward distance from said upper internal surface regions. The platen internal surface regions preferably have a plurality of slope changes. Oil so deposited on the platen internal surface regions forms a thin film that flows downwards and preferably experiences a variable flow rate and variable film thickness. Volatiles produced from the thin film are separated and vented preferably from a chamber over the platen, while oil consolidated from the thin film at the platen bottom is collected and recycled.

摘要: The invention is directed to a process of reducing the chlorine content of oil as well as its propensity to foul during subsequent distillation processes. The process heats the oil to a temperature in the range of 400 to 700 F and contacts the oil with a non-oxidizing gas, such as steam, for a residence time of at least several minutes. Thereafter the oil may be distilled and/or finished to a base lubricating oil or other distillate product. The oil subject to the process may be used oil, and can be subject to a dewatering or removal of light contaminants treatment prior to being subject to the process.

摘要: A process for significantly decreasing the acid sludge settling time in waste oil recovery processes comprising the steps of heating used oil to a high temperature above 725 degrees Fahrenheit, cooling the heated oil, adding an oxidizing agent to the oil, allowing the acid sludge to settle within a period of approximately 24 to 72 hours, separating the acid-sludge-free oil from the acid sludge which settles out of solution as a result of addition of the oxidizing agent, and adding a polishing agent and separating the re-refined oil from the spent polishing agent. The spent polishing agent is recycled, and the acid sludge which settles out after oxidation is converted to either hard, oxidized asphalt or soft asphalt or asphalt products such as emulsions etc. The process produces a high quality re-refined oil rapidly and economically with no acid sludge disposal problem.

摘要: This invention is a process comprising several steps for removing solid contaminants and for assisting in the dewatering of liquid hydrocarbons. For the purposes of this invention, solid contaminants include dissolved salts, either in the oil or in the emulsified water phase, or dispersed undissolved solids. First, a sample of liquid hydrocarbon containing solid contaminants is heated to a temperature in the range of 180.degree. F.-200.degree. F. Following heating, an aqueous solution of carbodihydrazide is added to the liquid hydrocarbon and the liquid hydrocarbon is re-heated to a temperature of 180.degree. F. to 200.degree. F. After re-heating, a demulsifier is added to the liquid hydrocarbon and water and the precipitated solids are separated from the liquid hydrocarbon.

摘要: In a multi-pass system for purifying oil or other liquids, an improved apparatus and method for mixing air with the contaminated liquid for separation after a phase change from liquid to gas. The contaminated liquid is drawn from a reservoir by a pump, filtered, and heated, and atmospheric air is induced into the contaminated liquid downstream of the heater by an eductor, which promotes the phase change from liquid to vapor. The liquid/contaminant mix, which now includes entrained air, is passed immediately through a second eductor, the compressibility of the air in tile mix, followed by expansion of the compressed air as the mix exits the second eductor, causing intimate contact of air and contaminant, thereby promoting the stripping of the contaminant from tile liquid. The air/liquid/contaminant mix is then routed to a level controlled separation tank, water vapor, contaminants, and condensate being released from tile tank ill the space above the pooled liquid. Purified, dry liquid is drawn from the tank by a second pump and delivered back to the reservoir.

摘要: A used lubricating oil comprising lube oil additives, including zinc dithiophosphate is subjected to reclaiming. Zinc dithiophosphate is thermally decomposed at a temperature of 400.degree. F. (204.degree. C.) to 1000.degree. F. (538.degree. C.) for a residence time of 10 to 120 minutes. The resulting oil is subjected to vacuum distillation. A zinc-free (i.e. ash free by ASTM D-482) distillate oil is useful as marine diesel fuel. About 5 to 25 vol % is recovered as a metal containing bottoms product, useful as asphalt extender. The process is carried out in the absence of chemical demetallizing.

摘要: Liquid dehalogenating agents containing (a) 30 to 70% by weight of an alkali metal alcoholate having 6 to 20 carbon atoms; (b) up to 12% by weight of an alcohol having 6 to 20 carbon atoms; (c) 5 to 40% by weight of a polyether; and (d) 10 to 65% by weight of a halogenfree hydrocarbon oil are efficient for the dehalogenation of waste oil while at the same time exhibiting improved resistance to hydrolysis and oxidation. In addition the present dehalogenating agents are homogeneous, stable for storage at room temperature, pumpable, and readily measurable, and they may be used in unheated pipes and pumps without causing deposits or plugging.
