Abstract:
The invention is directed to a method for preparing a pyrotechnic composition, to the use of a water-soluble cellulose ether binder, to a pyrotechnic composition, to a method for preparing a pyrotechnic charge, and to a pyrotechnic charge. The method of the invention comprises mixing the fibrous nitrocellulose in wet form with the one or more water-soluble cellulose ether binders and optionally one or more solvents, wherein the amount of organic solvent in the mixture is 10 wt. % or less based on total weight of the mixture.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a chlorine-containing pyrotechnic composition which is substantially free of per-chlorate which composition comprises a nitrocellulose which is derived from a fibrous nitrocellulose starting material that has at least partially been dissolved during the process of preparing the pyrotechnic composition, and a colorant. The invention further provides a firework article comprising said pyrotechnic composition, and a method for preparing the same.
Abstract:
An illuminating non-metallic pyrotechnic composition is disclosed which consists essentially of, expressed in absolute weight units: (a) from about 51 to 61 parts of strontium nitrate, (b) from about 15 to 25 parts of potassium perchlorate, (c) from about 15 to 25 parts of sulfur, (d) about 3 parts of sodium nitrate, and (e) about 2 parts of uintaite. Optimum flare luminosity is achieved when the composition is essentially free of other fuel constituents, such as dextrin, nitrocellulose charcoal. A flare is disclosed comprising the disclosed pyrotechnic composition.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a continuous extrusion process for producing a celluloid article including several steps and a celluloid article prepared by the continuous extrusion process.
Abstract:
Propellant compositions are provided herein for use in small arms cartridges. Such propellant compositions include a cellulose-based organic fuel, a non-azide, nitrogen-containing primary organic oxidizer and a secondary nitrate, perchlorate, chlorate of peroxide oxidizer. Preferably, such compositions are in the form of extruded shaped hollow cylindrical grains having dimensions that makes it loadable in a muzzleloader firearm or small calibre firearm cartridge case. Ignition grains are also provided for use alone or in a mixture with the propellant compositions. When used in a small calibre firearm or muzzleloader, the temperature of combustion is at a level that ensures substantially complete combustion of the fuel during firing so that the products of combustion are mostly gaseous.
Abstract:
A spontaneous ignition agent for an air bag gas generator with excellent temperature resistance comprises essentially nitrocellulose, an inorganic oxidizing agent, and carbon.

Abstract:
A percussion primer composition including at least one explosive, at least fuel particle having a particle size of about 1500 nm or less, at least one oxidizer, optionally at least one sensitizer, optionally at least one buffer, and to methods of preparing the same.
Abstract:
Propellant compositions are provided herein for use in small arms cartridges. Such propellant compositions include from about 70 to about 90% by weight of a cellulose-based organic fuel, from about 5 to about 30% by weight of a non-azide, nitrogen-containing primary organic oxidizer and from about 0.5 to about 10.0% by weight of a secondary nitrate, perchlorate, chlorate or peroxide oxidizer. Preferably, such compositions are in the form of extruded shaped hollow cylindrical grains having a length in the range of 0.030 to 0.200 inch, a diameter in the range 0.040 to 0.070 inch, and having a coaxial opening there through having a wall grain thickness in the range 0.008 to 0.016 inch. Ignition grains are also provided for use alone or in a mixture with the propellant compositions. When used in a small caliber firearm or muzzleloader, the temperature of combustion is at a level that ensures substantially complete combustion of the fuel during firing so that the products of combustion are mostly gaseous.
Abstract:
A perchlorate-free solid pyrotechnic flash bang composition is disclosed, which comprises an oxidizer component selected from the group comprising potassium nitrate, strontium nitrate, and basic copper nitrate and combinations thereof, a metallic fuel component selected from the group comprising aluminum, magnesium, magnesium-aluminum alloys, silicon, zirconium, and combinations thereof, and a non-metallic fuel component comprising sulfur. The flash bang pyrotechnic composition may also further comprise a ballistic accelerant component, a pH stabilizer, and a free flow/anti-caking component.
