A process for producing an ElAPO molecular sieve with essentially pure CHA framework having an average crystal size less than about 5 micrometers is disclosed. When El is silicon, the process allows for a broad range of silicon content, and produces a catalyst with a high selectivity for the conversion of methanol to olefins. The process includes making a crystalline metallo-aluminophosphate molecular sieve of the formula (ElxAlyPz)O2from a mixture comprising an aluminum source, a phosphorous source, water, an El source, a fluorine source and an organic template source wherein the molar ratio of the organic template source to phosphorous is less than about 0.5; crystallizing the molecular sieve at a temperature between 100 C and 250 C and calcining in air.

A new family of crystalline manganese phosphate compositions has been prepared. These compositions have an extended network which network can be a one-, two-, or three-dimensional network. The composition has an empirical formula of: (A.sup.a+).sub.v (Mn.sup.b+)(M.sup.c+).sub.x P.sub.y O.sub.z where A is a templating agent such as an alkali metal, M is a metal such as Al, Fe.sup.3+ and "b" is the average manganese oxidation state and varies from greater than 3.0 to about 4.0. These compositions can be used as adsorbents and as catalysts in the oxidation of hydrocarbons.

Disclosed is a novel process for the synthesis of a metal-containing aluminophosphate having a layered structure and novel optically active metal-containing aluminophosphates useful as enantio-selective catalysts, which comprises: a) slurring an aluminum source with water; b) adding a phosphorus source and slurring; c) allowing the mixture to stand; d) adding an organic additive; e) allowing the mixture to stand; f) adding a cationic transition metal complex g) heating to 80.degree.-250.degree. C. for 20-180 hours wherein the mole ratio of transition metal complex to organic additive is in the range of 0.1-1.0:1.0.

The synthesis and characterization of novel molecular sieves containing bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) cobalt(III) ion are described. Several types of molecular sieves were prepared using the cobalt metal complex as a template that was shown to be incorporated as a guest molecule within the molecular sieve. Molecular sieves prepared using bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) cobalt(III) ion as template were characterized as having a pore size at least as large as 7 .ANG.. Other molecular sieves were also prepared using bis(cyclopentadienyl) cobalt(III) templates. The compounds are attractive as catalysts in a wide range of applications.
