Abstract:
A clamshell packaging container for storing and handling multiple compact discs. The container has a base and a cover, the base being configured to hold a plurality of concentrically stacked compact discs while providing free access for a handling spindle to be inserted through aligned the central apertures of the discs when the container is open.
Abstract:
A packaging material comprising a plurality of cushioning members for cushioning an article in a container is provided. The cushioning members being formed by crumpling a flexible sheet of material having a plurality of slits extending through the sheet of material and into a globular configuration having a plurality of random folds, a plurality of random engaged portions, and a plurality of voids. The sheet of material has an upper surface and a lower surface with at least one of the upper surface and the lower surface having a bonding material disposed thereon such that at least a portion of the engaged portions are bondably connected thereby increasing the resiliency of the folds.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device and methods for manufacturing and shipping goods using a work platform that easily converts into a protective cover for use during shipment of the finished good. The device of the present invention reduces waste generated by the manufacturing and shipping processes through the use of a platform capable of retaining a good during both assembly and shipment. When shipment is complete, the platform is preferably constructed of a material that is recyclable. During assembly, the work platform exists as a single, planar platform comprising a first support surface and a second support surface fixedly joined at an interface. During shipment, the protective cover exists as the first support surface and second support surface fixedly interconnected in a parallel orientation.
Abstract:
A packing product and apparatus and method for manufacturing same are disclosed. The packing product includes at least one face sheet and at least one crumpled sheet pad attached to the face sheet. A package and method of packaging an article are also disclosed, the package including a container, one or more crumpled sheet pads positioned in the container, one or more face sheets positioned adjacent to the crumpled sheet pads, and an article positioned in the container in at least partial abutting relation to the one or more face sheets. The one or more face sheets may have portions that are folded to envelop the article. Also, the face sheet may include an opening having a pattern corresponding to a shape of the article. A pad producing apparatus includes a dunnage supply machine for supplying a strip of dunnage, a folding device for forming a fold line in and transverse to the strip of dunnage, and a capture chute for guiding and accumulating the folded strip of dunnage so that a first layer downstream of the fold line overlaps a second layer upstream of the fold line, thereby forming an accordion-like pad.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for preparing an item or plurality of items for shipment. Disposing one or a plurality of items on a rigid surface having a layer of deformable cushioning material with a bonding material thereon wherein the items are connectingly bonded to the foam layer which is deformed in response to the items. The items may be items of china, floral containers, and flower pots, or other similar items.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an apparatus for manufacturing a cushioning package containing an article to be packaged. The apparatus comprises a cushioning sheet forming unit 8 to form a cushioning sheet 1 by heat-sealing flexible elongated resin sheets which are continuously fed in a longitudinal direction and placed one on another and advance in a width direction of the sheet, which includes small sacs, an article storage space forming unit 3, which is a sequential unit to said cushioning sheet forming unit, to form an article storage space 1c by placing the cushioning sheet 1 on another, a sheet adhering unit 4 to adhere the overlapped cushioning sheets 1, an article disposing unit 5 to dispose an article C to be packaged in the article storage space 1c, and an air filling unit 6 is to fill the small sacs 11 with air. Sequential performance of the above steps achieves efficient manufacturing of cushioning package containing an article to be packaged.
Abstract:
A method for shipping a piece of furniture having a back section secured to a seat section that involves the steps of: (a) removing the back portion from the furniture; (b) placing at least one protective shipping sleeve over an edge portion of the back section; and (c) inserting the back section with the at least one sleeve and the seat section into a shipping container. A packaging apparatus suitable for overnight delivery which includes a shipping container and at least one shipping sleeve capable of receiving an edge portion of the back section of the furniture with the at least one shipping sleeve postioinable within the shipping container to abut a side wall of the shipping container is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A pad production (supply) and packaging system, and method, for automatically producing dunnage pads and inserting one or more of the produced dunnage pads into a container for packaging of an article in the container. The invention is characterized by a pad discharge assembly and/or pad insertion assembly to provide an automatic pad production and packaging system, and method, that afford advantages over existing pad production and packaging arrangements. The discharge assembly, which provides for controlled discharge of dunnage pads produced by a pad producing machine, includes a gating device for effecting passage of the pad out of the holding zone in a direction transverse to the pad length. A controller causes the discharge assembly to release a pad held in the holding zone for passage onto a working surface and preferably a conveyor in synchronous relation to movement of the conveyor for controlled deposition of pads onto the conveyor. The conveyor conveys the pad into a pad insertion zone in a first direction, and a pusher assembly is operative to push the pad from the pad insertion zone in a direction transverse to the first direction. The pusher assembly includes a plunger for engaging and pushing a pad located at the pad insertion zone; and the pad insertion zone includes an opening over which a pad is conveyed by the conveyor, and the plunger is operable to push the pad through the opening for insertion into a container. A sensor curtain is disposed near the holding zone and/or pad insertion zone to detect the insertion of a foreign object and provide an output for disabling a severing operation. One or more pad insertion assemblies can be swivelly mounted to a stand to permit relative rotatable movement therebetween from an operating position to a loading/servicing position and vice versa.
Abstract:
An anti-motor fret package/container is provided including a main insert, a top cover, and a cardboard shell. The package is especially adapted for securing computer disk drives therein. Potential damage to the computer disk drives is minimized by isolating any movement of the disk drives within the package. A central rib, displacement means, or contacting means are provided to press or hold the disk drives tightly against side walls of their loading compartments. Movement of the disk drives within the package is particularly constrained in the lateral or transverse direction to avoid the phenomena known as motor fret. The overall arrangement and construction of the package minimizes vibration and shock transferred to the disk drives during shipment.
Abstract:
