    摘要: We describe an ice protection system used for removing ice and/or other accretions from a structure. An actuator, coupled to a structure, is driven to generate vibrations in the structure. A controller drives the actuator using a signal that comprises a frequency chirp over a first period of time, and the controller controls the frequency chirp and the first period such that vibrations generated in the structure by the actuator propagate through the structure to coincide at a desired area of the structure remote from the actuator to remove ice and/or other accretions from the desired area of the structure.

Agitation for washing game is provided via one or more water flows at one or more outlets of an agitator. An outlet engages a bottom of a cradle to provide water flow at the cradle. The agitator extends out of an opening of a receptacle at a central portion thereof to receive a water supply, while forming a gap at the opening to permit a flow of water and waste material out of the receptacle.

    摘要: Active superhydrophobic surface structures are actively-controlled surface structures exhibiting a superhydrophobic state and an ordinary state. Active superhydrophobic surface structures comprise an outer elastomeric covering defining an exposed surface, a controlled group of MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) actuators at least covered by the elastomeric covering, and, a controlled region of the exposed surface corresponding to the controlled group. The controlled region has a superhydrophobic state in which the controlled region is textured. The controlled region also has an ordinary state in which the controlled region is smooth (i.e., less textured than in the superhydrophobic state). Active superhydrophobic surface structures may be part of an apparatus that includes a controller and/or one or more sensors. The controller, sensors, and the controlled region may form a feedback loop in which the active superhydrophobic surface is actively controlled.

    摘要: A de-icing assembly for a surface of an aircraft includes a carcass, seams, inflation passages, a manifold, and a reinforcement stitchline. The carcass includes a first layer, a second layer, and a carcass centerline. The seams are sewn into the carcass and join the first and second layers of the carcass together. The inflation passages are formed by the seams and are disposed between the first and second layers of the carcass. The manifold includes a width and a manifold centerline oriented approximately perpendicular to the carcass centerline and is fluidly connected to and is disposed beneath the carcass. The first reinforcement stitchline is sewn into the carcass adjacent to one of the plurality of seams and is disposed at a location on the carcass overlapping with the manifold. The first reinforcement stitchline is disposed approximately perpendicular to the manifold centerline and extends across the width of the manifold.

    摘要: A non-destructive examination (NDE) system for use on a structural element comprises nano-energetic actuators configured for creating a controlled combustion in response to thermal energy, thereby inducing vibrations in a surface of the structural element. The NDE system further comprises sensors configured for measuring the vibrations induced in the surface of the structural element and generating vibration data. An applique comprises a planar substrate, nano-energetic actuators affixed to the planar substrate, each configured for creating controlled combustions in response to thermal energy, and an adhesive affixed to the planar substrate, such that the applique can be adhered to a structural element. A means of transportation having an accumulation of ice comprises a structural element, and nano-energetic actuators, each configured for creating a controlled combustion in response to thermal energy, thereby inducing vibrations in a surface of the structural element great enough to generate cracks in the ice.
