摘要: The technical field of the invention is that of microactuators designed for mechanical, chemical, electrical or thermal functions in microsystems, for microelectronic applications such as chips, or biomedical applications such as cards incorporating microfluidics. The invention concerns a microactuator (1, 60) comprising a chamber (2, 63) machined in a solid support (3) and containing a pyrotechnic charge (6). Said microactuator (1, 60) is essentially characterised in that the chamber (2, 63) is partly delimited by a deformable membrane (4, 62), such that the gases emitted by combustion of the pyrotechnic charge (6) enable to increase the volume of said chamber (2, 63) by deforming said membrane (4, 62) while maintaining intact the solid walls of the chamber (2, 63).

摘要: An apparatus for generating an impact against a target object comprises a driver reciprocally disposed in a housing. The driver includes a hollow tube having a closed end and a nozzle sealing the other end. A piston is slidably positioned in the tube. Propellant is disposed between the piston and the closed end of the tube and fluid is disposed between the nozzle and the piston. A rupture disc is provided for sealing the nozzle which is adapted to rupture when the pressure in the tube exceeds a predetermined pressure. A striker is also mounted in the housing so that in a retracted position of the striker a head portion is proximate the driver and a portion of a shaft extends outwardly from the housing. The striker member is movable between the retracted position and an extended position. The propellant is ignited so that combustion gases build pressure in the tube between the piston and the closed end of the tube causing the pressure in the tube to exceed the predetermined pressure for rupturing the disc. This causes the piston to move toward the nozzle and fluid to be expelled through the nozzle for moving the driver against the head portion of the striker. The driver transfers energy to the striker for moving the striker to the extended position at high velocity for driving the end of the striker with great force against the target object. Recoil action is cushioned by the fluid exiting the nozzle.

摘要: A self contained, affordable, riding operator controlled machine for safely discharging land mines in farm lands and other accessible areas. The operator is well protected by heavy steel plates and sits 10 feet behind the mine discharge. The mine explosion is directed away from the operator. The heavy steel structure of the machine is designed to withstand the explosive force of anti-personnel land mines. Should an anti-tank mine be encountered, some damage would probably occur, but the operator should be unharmed. The machine (prototype) is designed to clear a 4 foot wide path and clear 1 acre in 2 to 4 hours depending upon the ground conditions. If desired, the described machine could be remotely operated. Such operation would be desired where anti-tank mines or heavy concentration of unexploded ordinance is anticipated.

摘要: A mine detector is provided for detecting buried land mines safely and promptly. A sensor head (12) is connected to a detector body (1) through hinges (11-1 to 11-4) and arms (12-1 to 12-3). The sensor head (12) includes a transmitting and receiving means for emitting electromagnetic impulses to the ground within a range of detection of land mines. When the transmitting and receiving means receives electromagnetic waves reflected from a land mine, information on the three-dimensional structure of the land mine buried under the ground is generated on the basis of the time of arrival of the reflected wave, the level of the reflected wave and the x and y coordinates of the transmitting and receiving means, and the information is displayed on a display (1). The detector is also applicable to the inspection of steel rods and bars for concrete reinforcement.

A malleable ring mounted about the piston neck obturates upon initiation of the energetic charge, and rifling provided on an interior surface of the actuator barrel causes the ring to rotate, and causes a counter-rotation in the piston. The rotating ring serves as a seal for preventing gas blow-by and the rotating piston is more dynamically stable throughout its travel down the barrel.

摘要: A method and device for cooling a gun barrel wherein coolant is provided to the gun barrel via a nozzle arranged at the downstream end of a pressure feed line arrangement. The coolant is originally conveyed from a reservoir into a pressure cylinder, while the pressure feed line between the pressure cylinder and the nozzle is closed. Thereafter, the coolant in the pressure cylinder is placed under a predefined operating pressure. Prior to firing a round, the pressure feed line is opened, so that the coolant flows to the gun barrel before firing. When firing a shot, the coolant in the gun barrel is compressed to a pressure above the predetermined operating pressure by the firing gases and pushed out of the gun barrel. In the process, the coolant is expanded into a buffer reservoir adjacent to the nozzle and is injected back into the gun barrel after the gas pressure built up has been reduced to the predetermined operating pressure.

摘要: A detonation arrestor cuts the detonating cord of a dud line charge to prevent the pressure wave from a nearby explosion from sympathetically detonating the dud line charge. A housing of the detonation arrestor has a transverse passageway to receive the detonating cord of the dud line charge and an axial bore intersecting the passageway. A cutter piston having a cutter blade is disposed in the bore and is sized to permit axial displacement by a shallow dish-shaped diaphragm spring. The diaphragm spring has its center adjacent to one end of the cutter piston and laterally extends from the bore to be secured to the housing along its round periphery in a sealed relationship. The diaphragm spring is formed in the configuration of a Belleville spring from a spring material providing strength, rigidity, and spring modulus to snap to an extended position when displaced to a position past an over center position by an impinging pressure wave. When the diaphragm spring is displaced by the impinging pressure wave to snap to the extended position, it axially displaces the cutter piston in the bore to cut the detonating cord with the cutter blade and arrest detonation of interconnected ordnance.
