Abstract:
There is disclosed a grinding method of a honeycomb structure, wherein a grind processing member having an outer peripheral surface, a first grinding wheel tapered surface and a second grinding wheel tapered surface and rotating around a central axis grinds a joined honeycomb segment assembly rotating around a central axis, and the above respective surfaces of the grind processing member form a first ground region, a second ground region, a center ground surface, a first tapered surface and a second tapered surface, to prepare the honeycomb structure including a cylindrical honeycomb base material, and a ring-like bulge portion “which surrounds an outer periphery of the honeycomb base material, protrudes from the outer periphery of the honeycomb base material toward the outside in a flange manner, and has the first tapered surface, the second tapered surface and the center ground surface.”
Abstract:
A machine tool is provided in which chips and the like are prevented from adhering to a sliding surface of an upper surface of a base and a sliding surface of a lower surface of a swiveling table. A machine tool includes a base that has four corners and is shaped to be elongated, a swiveling table that swivels while sliding on an upper surface of the base, and a swiveling cover that is supported by the base or the swiveling table so as to be able to swivel. The swiveling cover protrudes from a widthwise edge of the swiveling table to cover a corner upper surface of the base in a first state where the swiveling table is not present on the corner upper surface, and is housed under the swiveling table in a second state where the swiveling table is present on the corner upper surface.
Abstract:
A roll surface grinder includes a frame mounted on a carriage assembly for traversing movement between opposite sides of the frame in a direction parallel to the axis of the roll subject to grinding. The carriage assembly includes a linear drive system for controlling the transverse back-and-forth motion and speed of the carriage assembly along the frame during grinding. The carriage assembly includes a swing arm pivotally mounted on the frame and pivotal relative to the carriage assembly. The pivot angle of the swing arm relative to the carriage assembly can be adjusted manually to adjust the depth of the grinding.
Abstract:
A conversion grinding wheel frame for an abrasive-belt to secure thereto for replacing a conventional stone grinding wheel used on a cylindrical roll grinding machine. The abrasive-belt conversion wheel is secured to a spindle of the grinding machine by a wheel clamping assembly. The abrasive-belt conversion wheel frame having an engagement working surface and a mounting surface with both surfaces having apertures therethrough traversing from a chamber within the abrasive-belt conversion grinding wheel frame. Fluid under pressure in the chamber escapes through the apertures to the working surface and mounting surface. The pressure of the gas expands the abrasive-belt while being mounted onto the abrasive-belt conversion grinding wheel frame. The mounting surface is diametrically tapered in relation to the working surface to afford initial engagement of the abrasive-belt which further assists mounting the abrasive-belt onto the working surface.
Abstract:
A pivoting polishing block assembly comprises a torsion arm having a molded polishing block joined thereto in pivoting relation about the central axis of the torsion arm. The molded polishing block comprises a polishing block holder having a plurality of openings formed therein, and an abrasive pad formed thereover composed of an abrasive, moldable material. An apparatus for cleaning and polishing rolls, which includes the pivoting polishing block assembly, is also provided.
Abstract:
A polishing spindle is provided for use in a polishing device which includes a hollow spline shaft, and a polishing tool having a polishing member which defines a first bag-like elastic member and is attached in an airtight manner to a forward end of the hollow spline shaft. A device supplies a compressive fluid to the other end of the hollow spline shaft through a rotary joint, another device rotatably supports a nut which engages the hollow spline shaft, and a further device rotates the hollow spline shaft. A still further device is provided for displacing the hollow spline shaft in an axial direction. A second elastic member is provided along the axial direction of the hollow spline shaft so as to depress the polishing member against a workpiece under a constant pressure.
Abstract:
This invention relates to apparatus for copy-grinding workpieces consisting particularly of wood or a similarly grindable material, e.g. aluminum, and having an uneven surface, such apparatus comprising a rotatable clamping device for receiving a workpiece therein and at least one driven grinding tool positively controlled by a scanning roller scanning a master model and adapted to be advanced along the workpiece in the direction of the axis of rotation by an advancing mechanism.
Abstract:
A flat, elongate workpiece such as a knitting-machine needle, stamped from sheet metal with a transverse lug whose narrow faces require precise machining, is clamped in a workpiece holder with its lug centered on an axis about which the workpiece holder and an associated tool mounting are relatively rotatable. The tool mounting includes two symmetrically positioned supports, carrying respective power-driven shaping tools such as grinding wheels or millers, which are limitedly movable in a plane including the axis and are interconnected by a tension spring drawing them toward each other. An interposed cam disk, engaged by rollers mounted on these supports, determines the extent to which the two shaping tools can approach the axis in machining respective lug faces during a relative rotation of up to 180.degree..
Abstract:
A workhead, for the grinding of non-circular workpieces, equipped with a pair of compensating cams to shift the workpiece axis relative to the axis of the grinding wheel. The ''''X'''' cam shifts the workpiece axis horizontally; the ''''Y'''' cam shifts it vertically. The rotation of work and cams is synchronized so that the line jointing the point of grind, the center of the grinding wheel and the instant center of curvature of the desired surface is coincident with the feed and compensation line of the grinder at all times.
Abstract:
A grinding machine for grinding a workpiece having a plurality of portions thereon to be ground is provided having a first stop member for limiting the advancement of a grinding wheel head during rough grinding operations, a second stop member for limiting the advancement of the grinding wheel head during fine grinding operations, and a third stop member for limiting the retraction of the grinding wheel head during fine grinding operations to a point near the advancement limit thereof during the rough grinding operations. The machine is operative to successively roughly grind all of the plurality of portions of the workpiece, then to successively fine grind all of the roughly ground portions.
