Abstract:
An ultrasonic atomizer that is particularly simple to produce and in which desired vibration modes can be excited in a targeted fashion has a piezoelectric vibrator which is formed as a full-area panel and is joined to a substrate panel. The substrate panel is formed with at least one cutout in the form of a through opening. The geometric variables of the hole, such as the length, width, surface area or diameter, are selected in a specific way in order to define the working frequency of the unit with the piezoelectric vibrator and the substrate panel. An ultrasonic atomizer of this type is particularly advantageously used to generate a spray mist for an electric iron.

Abstract:
A vortex generator creates a waveform within a housing. The waveform evolves into a vortex as it exits an orifice of the housing. The vortex carries a bolus of active substances held within the housing. A different number of actives can be used. To form a waveform, the housing has a diaphragm with an actuator for moving the diaphragm. The housing may have a mechanism for facilitating directional pointing and/or causing oscillating movement of the housing to enable multi-directional targeting of the vortex.

An aerosol impingement baffle, and more particularly, an aerosol impingement baffle employed in ultrasonic nebulizers, wherein the impingement orifices thereof are formed by disposing line-shaped impingement grooves at the inner breadth of the impingement baffle, thereby increasing the differentiation probabilities of liquid particles and avoiding congestions thereof.
Abstract:
A multi-layer slot coating die (A) includes a housing (30) having a cavity therein, and a divider (32) arranged within the cavity of the housing (30) such that a plurality of separate channels are defined therein. The channels have elongated openings on an output side of the die (A) from which layers (10, 12) of coating material are extruded, and an ultrasonic transducer (44) is mechanically coupled to the divider (32).
Abstract:
The invention provides exemplary methods and apparatus for dispensing liquids as an atomized spray. In one particularly preferably method, a liquid is dispensed as an atomized spray from a vibratable member having a front surface and a rear surface, with the member having at least one tapered hole between the surfaces for dispensing the liquid. The tapered hole has a larger cross-sectional area at the rear surface than at the front surface. The liquid is delivered from a supply container to the rear surface of the vibratable member in an amount sufficient to cover the hole with liquid. The vibratable member is then vibrated to dispense at least a portion of the liquid through the hole and from the front surface. Additional liquid is delivered from the supply container and to the rear surface in volumes that are substantially equal to the volumes dispensed.

A battery operated atomizer device comprising, in a housing (22), a liquid reservoir (30) from which a capillary type liquid delivery system (38) extends to contact a piezoelectric actuator an atomization plate assembly (34), the assembly (34) being supported by means of wire-like elements (36) in cantilever fashion over the liquid delivery system, the liquid delivery system comprising an outer tubular member (52) and a solid rod (56) which have facing surfaces configured to define between them, longitudinal capillary liquid passages.
Abstract:
In order to provide a discharge device which forms microlenses, etc., with high precision, a switch circuit selects a predetermined one of drive pulses COM1, COM2, and COM3 included in a drive signal COM on the basis of waveform selection data obtained from control means, and applies the selected drive pulse.
Abstract:
An atomiser comprising a fluid delivery system, a nozzle which is connected to and receives fluid from the fluid delivery system, whereby fluid is vaporised on exiting the nozzle to form an aerosol stream of fluid droplets, and a vibration assembly which comprises a member capable of supporting vibration which is positioned adjacent the nozzle and an electromechanical force transducer mounted to the member to excite vibration in the member so as to input vibrational energy into the droplets. The transducer has an intended operative frequency range and comprises a resonant element having a frequency distribution of modes in the operative frequency range.
Abstract:
An aerosol generator comprises a vibratable member having a front, a rear, an outer periphery and a plurality of apertures extending between the front and the rear. A support element is disposed about the outer periphery of the vibratable member, and a vibratable element is coupled to the support element. The vibratable element is configured to vibrate the vibratable member at ultrasonic frequencies. An isolating structure is coupled to the support element and is configured to couple the aerosol generator to a support structure. The isolating structure has a mechanical vibrational impedance that is sufficient to substantially vibrationally isolate the aerosol generator from the support structure.
