    Abstract: A filter apparatus includes a vessel, a filter media positioned in the vessel, a feed inlet positioned in the vessel above the filter media, and a knockout pot coupled to the vessel and arranged to collect a gas discharged from the vessel. The apparatus also includes a draft tube positioned in the vessel and filled with the filter media and an eductor including a fluid inlet, a fluid suction port, and a fluid outlet directed into the draft tube, a first fluid supply coupled to the fluid inlet to deliver a flow of a first fluid, and a conduit arranged to connect the knockout pot to the fluid suction port. The eductor operates to draw a portion of the gas into the eductor in response to the flow of the first fluid, the first fluid and the gas forming a backwash mixture that is discharged into the draft tube via the fluid outlet to induce a roll of the filter media during a backwash process.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to filtration screens for use in a backwashable granular media bed filtration system. Drop-in retrofit kits for a backwashable granular media bed filtration system comprising one or more filtrations screens are provided herein. Such screens and kits can comprise a media support screen, a backwash filter screen, or a combination thereof. The kit can further comprise an agitator element comprising an impeller having vanes in which the impeller vane surfaces are coated with an abrasion resistant material. Associated filtration systems and processes are also described herein.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a filter apparatus (1) for mechanically filtering a liquid (W). The filter apparatus (1) includes a filter chamber (5) for containing a plurality of filter elements (7) that form a filter pack (29) for filtering the liquid. The filter chamber (5) has a liquid inlet (12) and a liquid outlet (14). The filter apparatus (1) includes means for introducing air into the filter chamber (5) through one or more air inlets (25) to agitate the filter elements (7). The filter chamber (5) is substantially sealed and the air introducing means (22) may be configured to draw air into the filter chamber (5) as liquid is drained from said filter chamber (5). In certain embodiments, the filter chamber (5) may have a substantially constant profile or a substantially continuously tapered profile along its longitudinal axis (X-X).     Abstract: A system for treating water for use in aquatics or recreational facilities is disclosed. The system includes a media filter vessel, a pressure sensor, and a monochromatic light source. A method of treating water for use in aquatics or recreational facilities is also disclosed. The method includes fluidly connecting a media filter vessel to a source of water for use in aquatics or recreational facilities, illuminating a media inside the media filter vessel, observing a monochromatic light source display a first indicator and observing a monochromatic light source display a second indicator. A method of retrofitting a media filter vessel is also disclosed. The method includes installing a pressure sensor on the media filter vessel, installing a monochromatic light source and operably connecting the monochromatic light source to a manual control and to the pressure sensor.

    Abstract: A filtration system using lightweight fibrous media (LFM) that are pre-compressed either 1) manually; or 2) in-situ using hydraulic flow; and where the LFM are forced to separate and relax for cleaning either: 1) manually, 2) in-situ in their filter housing, or 3) in an auto-clean system using separate devices in order to enact a particularly aggressive cleaning process. A plurality of lightweight fibrous media balls are pre-compressed and used to form a single mass that can filter water as the media are compressed by pre-compression before installation, or by water flow pushing on a pre-compression plate during filtration thereby forming a single mass providing multitudes of tortuous paths through which water can flow and the media can capture small particulate matter.
