Abstract: A catheter apparatus can include a first magnet coupled to a catheter and a second magnet configured to couple to a patient's skin. When the catheter and the first magnet are positioned within a patient's body, the second magnet can exert a magnetic force on the first magnet that stabilizes the catheter relative to the second magnet. The second magnet can be directly attached to the patient's skin or secondary devices such as straps can be used to place the second magnet in a fixed position relative to the patient's body. In some implementations, a plurality of magnets can facilitate holding the catheter in a substantially fixed position within the patient.

Abstract: A rotor for a pump has a housing and a rotor, and has at least one blade. The rotor is able to be actuated to rotate about an axis of rotation in order to convey a fluid in the axial or radial direction, and the rotor is able to be deformed in the radial direction between a first, radially compressed state and a second, radially expanded state. At a maximum speed of rotation of the rotor at which the power of the pump is at a maximum, the blade is essentially radially oriented, and/or the rotor has its maximum diameter.

Abstract: An apparatus for starting operation of a motor of an implantable blood pump including a memory storing one or more default parameters for at least one of controlling and monitoring the startup operation. A processor operatively coupled to the motor is included, the processor is configured to: commence the startup operation based on the one or more default parameters; detect an error during the startup operation; adjust at least one of the one or more default parameters in response to the detected error; store the at least one adjusted parameter in the memory; and commence subsequent startup operations based at least in part on the at least one adjusted parameter.

Abstract: A system and method for positioning a modular heart pump about the ventricles of the heart. The modular heart pump has at least one active panel and an apical base. Each active panel includes an inflatable membrane. The apical base helps retain the active panels on position about the heart. The components are assembled in vivo to create a pump assembly that encircles all or part of the heart. During installation, the active panels are advanced along the outside of the ventricles. Suction is provided on the leading edge of the active panels to remove any fluids and/or loose tissue that may prevent the active panel from advancing to an operable position.

Abstract: An aspiration system includes a plurality of catheters located at least partially within the lumen of an outer sheath. The outer sheath and the catheters are configured to slide relative to each other between a first state in which the distal ends of the catheters are located within the lumen of the outer sheath, and a second state in which the distal end and an end length section of each catheter is extended through the distal end of the outer sheath and outside of the lumen of the outer sheath. The end length section of each catheter is configured to spring or flare outward relative to the first state, when the outer sheath and the plurality of catheters are in the second state. The distal end of the outer sheath may be placed in an inferior vena cava or iliac vein in a transplant kidney patient, adjacent at least one renal vein, with the outer sheath and the plurality of catheters in the first state. Then, the system may be transitioned to the second state to cause the end length sections of the catheters to spring or flare outward adjacent the renal vein. The catheters are connected to a suction source for aspiration through the catheter end length sections.

Abstract: An assembly for attachment to a gastrostomy feeding tube is provided. The assembly comprises a valve connector and an anchor. The valve connector comprises a housing, a conduit traversing the housing from an inlet to an outlet; and a retaining element extending outwardly from the housing. The anchor comprises an anchor housing configured to receive a portion of the valve connector. The anchor housing has a gastrostomy feeding tube attachment feature for attaching the anchor to the feeding tube, and a valve connector retaining feature that defines a retaining space, wherein the retaining space receives the retaining element of the valve connector and is sized to enable rotation of the retaining element and the valve connector relative to the anchor such that the conduit of the valve connector maintains fluid connection with the gastrostomy feeding tube during rotation. Additional assemblies and systems are also provided for other medical devices.
