    摘要: A method of preserving porcine heart valves so that they may be incorporated into prosthetic heart valves for human implant. During fixation, the leaflets of the valves are repeatedly flexed throughout their full range of motion. Flexing of the leaflets continues throughout fixation, and is accomplished by providing for alternating fluid flow through the valve from the inflow and outflow sides sufficient to cause the leaflets to fully open and close.

    摘要: An implantable device which is suited for implantation into a human or animal heart for receiving and removably holding a valve prosthesis is described. The device comprises a ring structure which is adapted to be fixed to the tissue around the orifice of a heart valve after excision of the diseased or damaged natural valve has been effected. In use, the ring structure is fixed in place and then the appropriate valve prosthesis is attached to the ring. When the valve prosthesis fails and has to be replaced with a new prosthesis, the damaged prosthesis can be detached from the ring allowing a replacement prosthesis to be fixed to the ring without affecting the connection between ring structure and tissue.

    摘要: An aortic prosthetic valve for supra-annular implantation comprising a valve body of generally annular configuration and a valve element movably mounted on the valve body for opening and closing the valve. The valve body terminates in a generally annular base surface, and a scalloped suture ring circumscribes the valve body adjacent the base surface. The suture ring is configured to approximately fit the contour of the Sinuses of Valsalva at the base of the aorta. The base surface of the valve body is of a wavy configuration and is configured such that it does not project into the annulus at the base of the aorta, and accordingly, the valve body does not interfere with flow through the annulus. The suture ring has three lobes which fit the Sinuses of Valsalva at the base of the aorta. The valve is configured to minimize disruption of the vortices which develop in the Sinuses of Valsalva to assist in closing the valve.

    摘要: Mitral heart valve comprising a stent including a circular base and a pair of upstanding diametrically opposed struts, separating a pair of diametrically opposed arcuately shapes depressed reliefs, each such relief being bounded by a smooth curve interconnecting the struts to the circular base. A flexible, durable, biocompatible covering is secured to the stent and provides two equal opposed preset flappably movable valve cusps secured along the smooth curve defining the perimeter of the reliefs. The valve cusps each are preformed and preset so that the perimeter of the biocompatible covering along the free edge of each of the cusps between the tips of each associated strut is so related to the circumference of the circular base that, when the valve is in its forced open position, the cross-sectional area of the exit is substantially equal to the cross-sectional area of the inside of the circular base. When the valve is in its relaxed and natural position, the shape of the cusps is such that the free edges of the cusps sealingly meet in substantially wrinkle-free form at a line of apposition in the plane defined by the tips of the struts and the axis of the valve and follow the approximate shape of a catenary curve.
