摘要: An end effector for use with a surgical instrument includes a lower jaw, an anvil, and a resilient member. The anvil is pivotable relative to the lower jaw between a fully opened position and a fully closed position. The resilient member is configured to bias the anvil to remain in the fully opened position when the anvil is in the fully opened position. The end effector may include a closure ring coupled with the anvil that is translatable relative to the lower jaw and configured to engage the anvil at an interface as the closure ring translates proximally relative to the lower jaw to thereby pivot the anvil relative to the lower jaw toward the fully opened position. In various embodiments, the resilient member may comprise elastomeric material positioned between the closure ring and the anvil or a pair of springs or resilient arms that engage the anvil.

The handle arms are pivotally attached to each other at the distal ends at a pivot, which extends along the central longitudinal axis. A slider is slidingly attached to the handle. The slider is movable between a staple securing position at the distal end, wherein proximal ends are biased toward each other and a staple release position toward the proximal end, wherein the proximal ends are biased away from each other. A staple is disposed over the bosses.

摘要: A device for treating tissue includes a capsule defining a channel extending therethrough and clip arms. Each of the arms includes a proximal part releasably coupled to a distal part, a proximal portion of the distal part configured to be received within the channel of the capsule so that the arms move proximally and distally relative to the capsule between a tissue receiving configuration, in which distal ends of the arms are separated from one another, and a tissue clipping configuration, in which distal ends of the arms are moved toward one another. The proximal portion of each of the arms is configured to release from the corresponding distal part to lock the distal part of each of the arms over a portion of target tissue to be clipped while the proximal parts of the arms are removed from the body.

摘要: An incision closure apparatus and method for securely and adjustably holding a tube passing through the incision, such as a chest tube. In some embodiments the apparatus comprises a frame having a first side and a second side; a handle assembly pivotably coupled to the frame, the assembly comprising a pair of handles disposed between the first side and second side of the frame, wherein each of the handles is pivotably coupled to the frame and is movable relative to the frame between non-deployed and deployed positions; a needle array positionable at a lower end of each of the handles; and a tube holder located adjacent one of the first side and the second side of the frame for releasably securing the tube. The apparatus is adjustable to alter the placement of the tube and to vary the pressure applied to the tissue at the site of the closed incision by adjusting the spacing between the pair of handles.

摘要: Surgical stapling instruments having surgical stapling cartridges are disclosed. At least one embodiment includes an end effector that has an elongate channel that is configured to operably support a surgical staple cartridge therein and an anvil that is movably supported on the elongate channel between an open position and closed positions in response to an application of opening and closing motions applied thereto. An anvil lock member cooperates with the anvil to retain the anvil in an open position when a staple cartridge has not been installed in the elongate channel and prevent the anvil from moving to a closed position until the staple cartridge has been seated within the elongate channel. Surgical staple cartridges are configured to move the anvil from an open position to an actuatable position when the cartridge has been installed in the end effector.

摘要: An instrument can include a shaft with a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, an end effector at the distal end portion, and a transmission mechanism at the proximal end portion. The transmission mechanism can include a driven input device engageable with an external drive mechanism. The instrument can include an indicator operably coupled to the driven input device and moveable through each of a plurality of consecutive positions, each of the plurality of consecutive positions being associated with a unique indicium of a non-zero number of available uses left of the instrument. In response to the driven input device being driven, the indicator moves from a current position of the plurality of positions to a subsequent position of the plurality of positions. The instrument can also include a device configured to record occurrence of a change in an environmental condition to which the instrument is subjected.

摘要: A surgical instrument comprising a handle system, an elongate shaft assembly, and an end effector extending from the elongate shaft assembly is disclosed. The elongate shaft assembly comprises a first drive member and a second drive member. The end effector comprises an elongate channel configured to support a staple cartridge therein, an anvil movably coupled to the elongate channel, and a cutting member. When the handle system is engaged with the first drive member, a first actuation of the handle system advances the cutting member a first distance. When the handle system is engaged with the second drive member, a second actuation of the handle system moves the cutting member a second distance. The second distance is greater than the first distance.

摘要: Articulating surgical instruments are disclosed. In one embodiment, a surgical instrument may include an elongated shaft assembly including an articulable portion moveable between a non-articulated configuration and an articulated configuration. First and second articulating shafts of the elongated shaft assembly may be coaxially arranged and axially fixed at an attachment point located distally from the articulable portion. Proximal portions of the first and second articulating shafts may be displaceable in opposing directions to articulate the articulable portion from the non-articulated configuration to the articulated configuration. In another embodiment, an articulation control may be movable from a first position to a second position to move an articulation lock from a locked configuration to an unlocked configuration to selectively permit articulation of a surgical instrument. The articulation lock also may be movable from the second position to a third position to articulate the surgical instrument.
