A composite flame barrier includes a woven or nonwoven fiber sheet material including flame resistant fibers of oxidized polyacrylonitrile; a mineral hydrate material at least partially embedded within the fiber sheet material. The fiber sheet material may be covered on one or two sides with an outer laminar material. The composite flame barrier is particularly useful in fire-rated wall assemblies, especially those designed to provide two, three and four hour fire-ratings, when tested according to ASTM E-119 or similar testing methods and standards.
Abstract:
A portable and stowable quilting wall has generally rectangular body composed of a smooth backing sheet sewn peripherally to a mating front sheet of heavy nap felt. A top hem mounts spaced pieces of hook fasteners interspersed with holes. A bottom hem confines a heavy rod, while the backing sheet mounts strips of loop fasteners that are spaced to engage the hook fasteners when the wall is rolled up on itself to retain the quilting wall in a rolled-up condition for easy movement and storage. The felt nap releasably engages pieces of quilt pieces placed and retains them in both rolled-up and unrolled conditions, without the use of added adhesive or mechanical fasteners. The holes in the top hem receive hooks to hang the unrolled sheet against a wall or door, while the rod maintains the quilting wall flat against a vertical surface.

In one application for containing and remediating contaminants in sediments, employing a geocomposite eliminates the need for a thick cap or removal and subsequent ex situ treatment of the sediment. A geocomposite with at least one layer of reactive material is placed over the area to be remediated. A layer of available surcharge materials such as sand, gravel, or riprap covers the geocomposite. The weight of the surcharge materials causes pore water to flow from the sediment through the reactive layer or layers. Contaminants may be trapped in this reactive layer or layers. A top or bottom layer, or both a top and bottom layer, may be provided to inhibit incursion from outside the sediment layer, while permitting appropriate flow direction of pore water into the reactive layer or layers.
Abstract:
A felt pad made for application under the leg of a piece of furniture. This floor protector (20) is used to protect the floor from scratches caused by the furniture displacement. The superior face (26) is infused by an adhesive, instead of the two-sided adhesive tapes (60) which are known. The way the adhesive is infused renders the complete surface of the superior face adherent, which improves the felt pad resistance to shear efforts. It is also much more resistant to water. This innovative felt pad is replaceable when the adhesive is injected unto the upper face (38) of a mushroom-shaped Velcro surface, instead of directly to the superior face of a felt pad. Henceforth, a felt pad may be removeably fixed to the Velcro surface and replaced after wear. In this way, one may change only the felt pad, without having to remove the persisting adhesive below the leg. The felt pad used is in three stages: the top (42) and bottom (46) surfaces being made of felt, while the center stage (48) is reinforced.

A protection system for preventing floor surfaces from becoming damaged due to the movement of furniture. The inventive device includes a piece of hook material, an adhesive strip attached to the hook material for attaching to the lower end of a leg of furniture, and a piece of felt pad having a plurality of loop members extending within for removably engaging the hook material. The hook material, and felt pad may be trimmed with a conventional cutting device to conform to the shape and size of the lower end of the furniture. The loop members are preferably inserted within the felt pad utilizing a needling or similar process.

A composite component is provided having at least one felt layer as reinforcement when used for crash and/or noise management applications, and preferably also including at least one reinforcement fiber layer. At least one of the reinforcement layers, preferably a felt layer, may be formed into a preform which is placed into a mold of suitable shape to form the component, along with the other reinforcement layers, with a resin/polymer being injected into the mold and then cured to form the composite component.
