Abstract:
Image scanning apparatus comprising a profiling surface; a feed mechanism for feeding a flexible radiation sensitive record medium across the profiling surface; a scanning system for scanning a modulated radiation beam across the record medium to expose the record medium; and a pressurizer operable simultaneously with the feed mechanism to apply a pressure difference across the record medium as it is fed across the profiling surface whereby the record medium engages the profiling surface and conforms with the shape of the profiling surface.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for holding recording media against a media support surface of an imaging system using an arrangement of variable cross-section vacuum grooves. Each vacuum groove has a continuously decreasing cross-section along its length. Each vacuum groove has a maximum cross-section adjacent a vacuum port and a minimum cross-section at a distal end of the vacuum groove.
Abstract:
A punch assembly including at least one punch installed and aligned on a carrier plate. The carrier plate includes a plurality of openings which are configured to mate with corresponding precision locator pins on an imaging system. The punch assembly is installed on the imaging system by inserting the precision locator pins through the plurality of openings in the carrier plate.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for maintaining contact between the recording media and the media support surface of a scanning system. A pressure load is applied on the recording media in the immediate vicinity of a scanning laser beam, thereby ensuring surface to surface contact between the recording media and the media support surface while scanning.
Abstract:
A rotatable head type electrophotographic apparatus comprises a rotatable head supported on a moveable table and having a corona charging electrode and a light source secured thereto to face outwardly of the circumferential surface thereof. A development processing unit is supported on the moveable table close to a photosensitive material supported on a platen having a curved supporting surface. The light source is driven in accordance with a predetermined modulating signal to form an electrostatic latent image in the photosensitive material when the rotatable head is rotated and moved above the photosensitive material. The latent image is immediately developed by processing liquid flowing in the development processing unit along the surface of the photosensitive material.
Abstract:
As a sheet material such as paper is wrapped onto an axially rotating cylinder, it is pulled through a slot in a member which surrounds a lengthwise portion of the cylinder. Relative motion between the cylinder and member is stopped before all of the sheet is passed through the slot. Then, the cylinder and member may be rotated together for any desired purpose, such as to allow writing on the sheet. The sheet is unwrapped by rotating the cylinder in the reverse direction, while holding the member stationary.
Abstract:
The device enables the inspection (10, 11, 12), marking (9) or other processing or monitoring of a printed sheet (1), conveyed in register on a radial path by means of a rigid, rotating sheet conveying device (2, 3, 4, 5), from the inside, that is to say the concave side of the movement path.
Abstract:
A sequencing manifold for selectively drawing air from a plurality of vacuum channels, comprises, a fixed element having an outer surface and an internal cylinder, the fixed element further including a plurality of holes passing from the outer surface to the internal cylinder, the plurality of holes communicating with the plurality of vacuum channels. A piston is movably disposed within the internal cylinder and includes a hollow portion in communication with a device for drawing air. The piston is movable within the internal cylinder to align the hollow portion with a predetermined number of the plurality of holes for selectively drawing air from the predetermined number of the plurality of holes.
Abstract:
An internal drum printing plate plotter is disclosed. The plotter provides a smooth path for a printing plate from an input location to a plotting location to an output location. The plotter includes a partially cylindrical drum and a loading tray associated with the drum at one end thereof. The drum covers at least 180 degrees of curvature and has an internal surface and the loading tray and the internal surface define the smooth path.
Abstract:
A scanning system using at least one mirror for scanning material to read (or alternatively to be written upon) with a laser beam is provided. Air under pressure is fed into a hollow shaft and escapes through a turbine on the shaft to rotate the shaft. The shaft is supported by air bearings. The shaft rotates the mirror during scanning. Air pressure escaping from the air bearings is vented to the ambient atmosphere. Two special thrust bearings are provided to improve the stability of the shaft. Each thrust bearing applies a force on the shaft in a direction parallel to the axis of the shaft and opposite to the force applied by the other thrust bearing. Each thrust bearing comprises a cavity in the housing, a flat plate attached to the shaft, and a porous bronze plate between the cavity and the flat plate. The air pressures in the two cavities are separately adjustable to enable the operator to select pressures that provide the system with maximum stability. The air under pressure in each cavity passes through the porous bronze plate associated with the cavity to apply pressure to the flat plate (that is attached to the shaft) associated with the cavity.
