This laser system is a scanning type in which a plurality of kaleidoscopes are bundled together to form a kaleidoscope bundle. The laser beam from the laser oscillator is scanned and is applied to the input ends of the respective kaleidoscopes of the kaleidoscope bundle successively.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for transferring information relative to a recording medium bend the medium about a first axis and move an information transfer stimulus in an arc over such bent medium about a second axis laterally offset from and extending at an angle to the first axis. These methods and apparatus impart to the bent medium a wave-shaped configuration for accommodating the mentioned arc in a perpendicular plane through the second axis. The wave-shaped configuration may be imparted to the medium with the aid of a guide or roller having a wave-shaped contour.

    摘要: A lens system is described which allows a scan spot in a flying spot scanning system on the image surface to be focused in the cross scan plane and at the same time correcting field curvature distortion. The use of a first lens element having negative power in the scan direction and a second lens element having positive power in the cross scan plane on the front surface and positive power in scan plane on the rear surface allows a light from a laser to be reflected from a rotating polygon to be reflected from a concave cylindrical mirror onto a xerographic or other photosensitive surface.

    摘要: Apparatus for both rotating and translating a scanning mirror is provided. The mirror is carried by a hollow shaft which is rotated by air under pressure. Such air is fed into the hollow cavity in the shaft and escapes through a turbine which is a part of the shaft. The turbine rotates the shaft. The shaft is supported by air bearings from a surrounding housing. That housing is supported by a slide which is pneumatically supported from a stationary rail. The slide is translated parallel to the axis of the shaft by a lead screw driven by a stepping motor. The lead screw cooperates with a lead screw nut which is affixed to said slide. The aforesaid arrangement provides great accuracy and minimum instability during the scanning operation.

    摘要: A linear optical scanner adapted to receive light rays from object space, the light rays passing through the linear optical scanner in image forming relation, the linear optical scanner being adapted to periodically and reciprocally deflect the collimated light rays through a predetermined angle. The periodically and reciprocally deflected collimated light rays leave the linear optical scanner and passing through an objective lens system to an image plane. The objective lens system has an optical axis incident on the image plane and is adapted to focus the periodically and reciprocally deflected collimated light rays to form a periodically and reciprocally displaced image on the image plane. The linear optical scanner comprises: a first and second wedge prism, each wedge prism having: a first surface, an optical axis, and a second surface, each respective optical axis passing through a respective first and second surface, a pivot axis, means for pivoting each respective wedge prism on a respective pivot axis and for positioning each respective wedge prism optical axis to direct the collimated light rays passing through the linear optical scanner to the objective lens system, and means for periodically and reciprocally counter-rotating each respective wedge prism through a predetermined angle on each respective pivot axis. The wedge prisms have prescriptions adapted to produce reciprocal lateral displacement of the collimated light rays; whereby, the linear optical scanner and the objective lens cooperate to produce a focused image on the focal plane. The focused image is periodically, reciprocally and laterally displaced on the focal plane.

A pentaprism, pantamirror, right angle prism or right angle mirror monogon 30 is rotated about an axis passing through its sides and through the axis of the applied light beam 8. By reflections off of two mirrored surfaces 22, 24, the output light beam 28 creates a plane of light. When, or if, the pentaprism 30 wobbles about the rotational axis, the effects of the wobble are eliminated because via the internal reflections of the pentaprism, the output light beam 28a is parallel to the original output light beam 28, the parallel light beams 28, 28a being focused onto the scan surface by external optics 70.

    摘要: A light beam scanning apparatus in which a plurality of mutually equivalent diffraction gratings, or a plurality of mutually equivalent converging holographic lenses, is arranged on a disc in a circle equidistantly and equidirectionally. The disc is revolved at a constant speed around an axis vertical thereto that passes through the center of the circularlly arranged diffraction gratings, or the like. A laser beam is projected incident upon one of the diffraction gratings or holographic lenses on the disc at a predetermined location from a predetermined direction. The laser beam is diffracted by the diffraction grating or the holographic lens, and after converging once, becomes a diverging beam incident upon a concave mirror with a spherical or spheroidal reflecting surface which re-converges the diverging beam on a scan plane. The light re-converged on the scan plane scans the scan plane in accordance with displacement relative to the incident laser beam of the diffraction gratings or the like that are caused by the disc revolution. Due to switching by the disc revolution of the diffraction gratings or the like from one to the next that the laser beam is incident upon, scanning of the scan plane is periodically repeated.
